Beautiful and peaceful!
Road in is a little bit of a challenge so rent a 4X4 so you can fully enjoy the entire property! It is beautiful and has so much to offer. We had a great time for our 20th Anniversary week! Loved it!

Exceeds Expectations! Ranks as our favorite VRBO.
Come here if you want a calm and beautiful place to relax and exhale from your usual routine and life. Michael and Irina are gracious hosts and very willing to help in any way. They have built a beautiful space to share with attention to every detail. We spent so much time on the deck having coffee in the morning, watching the sunsets at night, listening to the jungle sounds of monkeys and birds and insects. The pool is a perfect place to cool off and watch birds and butterflies, after a hot day at the beach. Michael showed us around the property, highlighting the flora and fauna. It is a paradise! Michael had great recommendations for things to do, including the family-run Palo Verde Boat Tour. It's about a 1.5 hour drive to the family lodge and then a 90 minute boat tour in which you will see crocs, monkeys, huge iguanas, and tons of birds. And the lunch after was the best food we had in Costa Rica. It's also close to the village of Guatil where there are potters that continue in the same ancient pottery making techniques of the ancestors. Look for Pottery of the Chorotega. The only thing to be aware of is the road up to the property. Definitely rent a 4X4! We've traveled Costa Rica before and were aware of the road conditions, which can be nerve-wracking, so we weren't put off. But for first-timers, be prepared for all travel to take much longer than anticipated. I also would not try to find this property in the dark. I would return without hestitation!

If you like to be away from hustle and bustle, this is an ideal getaway.
After a bumpy road to the Finca, (we got good instructions from the host), we were surprised how serene and beautiful this place was. It sure was worth the ride! The view of the ocean, the sundown, hiking to the waterfall twice, just to mention a few. (We are in our seventies) we felt invigorated and so glad we were here. Soaking in the solitude. Reading in the hammock, not being bothered by anyone, yes this was a great stay. We will remember this experience for a long time. Matthew and Irene, the host were very hospitable.

Breathtaking location with jungle feel
My husband and I enjoyed the view of the ocean from our room, the pool, and many areas around the property. The hike down to the creek and the waterfall was amazing. We heard the howler monkeys and geckos! We saw birds and crazy trees with spikes. We traversed the dense jungle terrain on the well-marked trail system. Beware … the trail is steep and can be slippery when wet; wear good shoes and use the walking sticks provided by the host!! Also be aware the dirt road to the property is steep, narrow, snd winding. 4x4 is highly recommended… we didn’t have 4x4 and were nervous about traveling up and down. The “soda” up the hill from the property offers delicious food and excellent service!! We highly recommend staying here and would love to own a place at this location!

Vacation
Finca Cotinga Azul is a spectacular place to relax. The units are gorgeous, fully equipped and immaculate with wonderful views. Nice walking on steep trails within the property and also on the quiet local roads. The horse ride was a lovely adventure with a full time horse caretaker. We went into Samara one morning and headed back early because we preferred enjoying the deck on our unit and the pool overlooking the valley. Follow Michael’s directions rather than Google or Waze. Our highest recommendation for a true retreat. We look forward to staying here again; hopefully, for longer.

Absolutely amazing!
This beautiful location was exactly what my wife and I were looking for, You get to experience the mountains, hiking to a waterfall with in the property was a great way to experience Cost Rica for the first time. Close to the town of Samara allow you to experience the beautiful beaches and authentic Costa Rican food with plenty of "sodas" all around town. Driving to the property on a dirt road added excitement to the experience, driving thru the clouds was unbelievable and the scenery was out of this world. Sitting on the elevated balcony was sure a way to relax with stunning views of the mountains and the ocean, with the sound of howler monkeys and beautiful birds you know you are in a true paradise. Michael the host was very friendly and informative, his place was just perfect for our Costa Rican trip. Highly recommended!

Rainy season on the finca
Adventures surrounded us amidst the charm of Finca Cotinga Azul. Greetings daily from their family dog Tigre always brought a smile to my face. Michael was so welcoming and shared so much of his knowledge of the finca and The local area. We were easily able to travel to Nosara and Samara to put our feet in the sand of the numerous breathtaking beaches. Our casita was so clean and perfectly relaxing. Nature never stopped greeting us as we sat on the balcony enjoying the various weather changes throughout our stay. A morning ride on the horses refreshed a peace in my soul; taking in the sights and sounds. Walking the grounds led us to dream of owning a lot and building our dream home in Costa Rica and a waterfall full from the rains. We love all the places we have visited in CR, and don’t want to repeat a region until we have seen all of this beautiful country; but we both said this finca is a place we would go again. Thank you for the memories!

Had a wonderful time, especially my wife who must have hiked the entire property! The owners were very accomodative, showing us around the property. Very knowledgeable about the area. Short drive to some of the finest beach's I have ever been to. We would certainly like to return..

Incredible house and even more incredible place to stay.
We’ve stayed in many places in Costa Rica and this is far and away our favorite. Very friendly and helpful hosts, everything we needed with incredible views. Beautiful jungle privacy and quiet (except for the amazing birds and monkeys as expected) in an amazing setting in the mountains with ocean views. Just a beautiful place to stay with hiking to pools and water falls on the finca. Gorgeous pool and setting. Don’t miss the restaurant up the road (Sabor) with local organic /fresh food & incredible view as well. Can’t say enough about Michael and Irena. Will definitely be back!

The hidden gem
The rental of this property was simple and very enjoyable. The owners are there to help and make sure the stay is perfect. We loved every moment we spent at the Finca Cotinga Azul. The views leave you awe struck and wanting for more. It is very safe place to visit. We enjoyed the wildlife, the trails, the fruit, and the flowers. We did not want to leave.
