Best Hotel on Our Europe Roadtrip
We’re on a road trip through Europe from Denmark and have stayed at four hotels before this one – and this was by far the best. I work in the hotel industry myself as a former reception/bar manager and hospitality trainer, and I have to highlight the incredible guy at reception when we arrived around 3 PM. I didn’t catch his name, but he was outstanding – welcoming, smiling, curious about our journey, and full of great recommendations. He made the small lobby feel personal and warm.
We had contacted the hotel via Hotels.com in advance, and within days they confirmed we’d get a room with a great view of the Cologne Cathedral. Room 505 did not disappoint. I spent hours on the big balcony admiring the view. The room was spotless and it was a nice touch that the water bottles were cold in the fridge (often they’re left lukewarm on the desk elsewhere). Great location, great staff. Even the delivery guy greeted us kindly in the elevator.
Funny detail – the same man who checked us in was also there in the morning! What a legend. At checkout, his colleague joked he’d call our bosses to help us stay one more night – a lighthearted moment that made us feel even more at home. He said we should return and ask for 505 again – though apparently, there’s an even better room? We’ll have to come back and see!
