Arrived very early to the hotel (10am) so knew the room would not be ready. After a wait to be seen by the unhurried reception staff we told them of this and they stored our large cases for us and said they would send us an email when the room was ready.
Waited until 4pm and as no email had arrived we asked to check in 'officially'. We were told the room was 'being inspected' and would be another 10 minutes. Half an hour later we went to reception yet again and was told it wouldn't be long. After another 10 minutes it was finally ready. The staff did not tell us of the welcome drink, resort fee etc etc. We then went to the bar and waited for anyone to turn up. The reception staff could see us waiting but showed no interest at all.
No smiles, no niceties and certainly no apologies from any staff we interacted with during this time.
Breakfast was OK. The hot water urn had been used for coffee previously so my tea tasted of coffee. The older chef was great and was saying good morning and asking if he could get us anything. He and one young lady receptionist and one older cleaning lady were the only members of staff we interacted with over 3 days that seemed cheerful, pleasant and keen to provide a good service.
Male pool restroom had no hand towels for 2 days and today no toilet paper either.
The shuttle bus is a good service and a great choice to get to the beach or Old Town.
Overall, we're amazed at the positive reviews here as we thought it was pretty poor.
