Carn Bica from Carn Sian The peak of Carn Bica is aligned due north of Carn Sian: these natural rockpiles must have been invaluable in direction finding for millennia. The coarse grass and rushes growing among the boulders provides a habitat for stonechats whose clinking call suits the surroundings.

Rhestr Gerrig from Carn Menyn Looking westward from Carn Menyn the thin grey line in the middle distance is called Rhestr Gerrig, the stone row or River of Stones, a moraine left by a shrinking glacier, now partially buried in peat and overgrown by heather. The sweep of moorland beyond is Cors Tewgyll.

Cors Tewgyll Swampy moorland between the eastern slope of Carn Talfynydd and the dispersed settlement of Mynachlog-ddu, part of which can be seen here. There are two Tewgyll streams running down the valley here from the north (left).

Block-field below Carn Sian The scattered boulders below the volcanic outcrop are the result of frost action splitting the rocks which then rolled down the slope.

Beddarthur standing stone circle, Preseli Mountains The stone circle of Beddarthur lies on the north eastern slopes of Carn Siân in the Preseli Mountains, North Pembrokeshire. The stone circle is adjacent to the ancient trackway known as the 'Golden Road' which runs along the Preseli mountain ridge and passes Carn Menyn (the reputed source of the Stonehenge Bluestones) which can be seen in the distance.

Stayed in apartment 5 ‘The Firs’, thoroughly happy with the amenities, space (it’s big!) and quiet location. Plenty of space to relax for the family and a dog. Good location to explore, Pembroke walkable and local beaches a short drive away. Would stay again for sure. Communications excellent

Preseli Hills High moorland on the Preselis. Home to grazing sheep and hardy mountain ponies. There is even mention of the occasional 'big cat'! Yet to be confirmed! Carn Ingli is seen to the right of the picture. It straddles the borough of Newport and the Cwm Gwaun, a steep sided valley formed by glacial meltwaters.
