Old slate quarry at Glogue Slate extraction probably started here in a small way at the end of the C18 but output only picked up in the 1820s and 30s. It grew substantially during the second half of the C19, peaking in 1873 when 80 men were employed, producing 2000 tons of slate a year. It was also in 1873 that the railway finally opened, with the purpose of easing the transport out. Production slowed down in the C20 and the quarry was worked by a local syndicate until it closed in 1926.

Distant quarry, distant chapel. Young cattle, looking at me looking at them, but the view beyond takes in the old slate quarry at Glogue and further east, barely visible directly above the red cow's rump and just below the horizon, the roof of the chapel of Llwynyrhwrdd near Tegryn 516143.

The room we were given, was very hard to access to. We had to go up some stairs, for again to go down. The fire doors were very heavy. Our room smell of very old carpet. There were hulls in the curtain. Future more the room was extremely cold. I had to buy a heater in Tesco.

Great stay at Swallow Cottage - very clean and tidy and had absolutely everythinfg you could need, right down to dishwasher tablets! Isaac was really helpful, couldn't ask for more.
