"Futon style. I paid extra for room facing the river. Waking up to river flowing sound is pretty therapeutic. The room has a toilet bowl room attached with hand washer. But for face and teeth brushing, you will need to go to common bathroom area.

The hotel is a little old fashioned but still beautiful and the views are spectacular.

"Nagataki was better than a hotel stay. We stayed for one night before walking the Nakasendo. We had our own little Japanese cottage set in a lovely garden. Meals were served in our cottage and were simply amazing. The food presentation was a work of art and absolutely delicious and inventive. The onsen was beautiful and had a gorgeous view out to the garden. The staff were so lovely even though not a great deal of English was spoken. We were picked up and dropped off at Nakatsagawa station....

The only downside are the beds (traditional Japanese style) that are not really comfortable, you can hear everyone in the hostel as the room are separated by traditional paper doors.
