We recently stayed at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana, and unfortunately our experience did not match the luxury standards advertised.
From the moment we checked in, there were significant cleanliness and maintenance issues. The bedding had visible stains upon arrival and those same stains remained present throughout our six-night stay, despite being told the room was cleaned daily. The private terrace pool was dirty when we arrived and was not cleaned until the following day after we called.
The terrace and interior floors were extremely dirty, to the point where we felt we needed to wipe our feet before getting into bed. The bathtub shade was broken and sitting inside the tub, making it unusable the entire stay.
Noise was also a major issue. The walls and door gaps allowed significant hallway and worker noise late into the night. We had to place a towel at the base of the door to try to reduce sound and airflow.
Most concerning, my wife was bitten by bugs inside the room. We saw the bugs ourselves. After being bitten, she experienced fevers, severe headaches, and multiple fainting episodes during the trip, nearly losing consciousness several times. This was extremely alarming and had a serious impact on our ability to enjoy the vacation.
We documented these issues with photos and contacted Expedia after our stay. However, we were informed that no compensation could be provided because the hotel was unwilling to authorize it.
