When I reached out to the host of the day of travel to get check in instructions, he informed me that he had double booked, and he did not have a place for us to stay. He then stopped responding to my messages, questions, and requests for refund. I booked this place six months in advance and would expect him to let us know that he had double booked prior to the day of travel. Also would have expected him to respond to messages and immediately offer a refund and/or help finding another place. VRBO did refund us the money and the agent I talk to from VRBO was very apologetic and kind.
