I had booked a room for 3 nights for my wife and I, and two of our grandchildren. We arrived shortly after noon and asked if our room was ready, which they confirmed. However, they charged us 10 GBP if we wanted the room before 3 PM. Furthermore, they asked us to pay the full amount for the stay when we checked in, i.e. even before we had seen the room!
The lobby and adjacent bar looked quite nice, but the corridors and our room were in a miserable state. The TV in our room didn't work and we could not open the safe. I went to the lobby and asked them to fix the safe and they promised to send a man up to our room, but nothing happened. Eventually, after the fourth time a man came up and fixed the TV and the safe.
Another issue was the fire safety. Two times during our stay we were awakened by the fire alarm. After a minute or so the alarm went off. After the second incident my wife went down to the lobby and they explained that the alarm was due to a delivery man who had not closed a fire door! A few other observations which gave rise to concern: 1) two fire doors were permanently kept open with chairs and a sack of garbage, 2) in an escape corridor a fridge was plugged in right next to piles of garbage, and 3) a lot of easily inflammable stuff (wallpaper and linen) was stored along the walls of the escape corridor. When we checked out we asked if we could leave 4 small bags for 1 1/2 hours before we should go to the airport. The charge for this service was 10 GBP!
