The air conditioning was not working the room was pathetic multiple lights were not working. It was struggle to sleep at night as it was so hot. Need to call room service multiple times as they never responded. Literally it was a struggle to live there.

The hotel is very convenient for the centre of york and the tourist attractions. The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. Everything is there, a bar, restaurant, coffee area. The staff were nice and helpful. We had a nice stay.

Room was very small for a double room, the room was very tired and not very clean. Breakfast was poor, waiting for food to be replenished, one of the waitresses was very rude and not to the standard required in this hotel. Stayed at this hotel quite alot however will need to improve for us to come back.

Lovely hotel. Room was quiet so got great sleep whilst there. Nice bar and restaurant. The staff were very helpful every time we needed something. Would definitely recommend staying here

Perfect for short stay close to town. Great king single beds in a twin room. Was travelling with my elderly mother so would always like to see a handrail in all showers.

Good for being close to York centre, but hotel is very tired looking could do with a major uplift especially windows all wooden and very damp causing mold when closed

Staff went above and beyond. The property itself was a bit dated and in need of a lick of paint. But our room (Family 2 room) was spacious and well designed just a bit in need of some love. Overall would stay again and, again, the staff are really the highlight

Room was clean and had everything we needed. We had originally booked a room with two twins but it was unavailable so we were given two double rooms next to each other which was nice, since we’re young friends travelling together. However our room was so far away that the WIFI didn’t work. We were only there for one night, so we didn’t complain. Would have bothered us if we were staying longer. We weren’t driving, but noticed that the parking there is very limited, and even our cab driver struggled to be able to get in and out of the lot. Location was very central, and we were able to walk to everything we wanted to see. Staff were wonderful and they had great recommendations on things to see.

Comfy, cozy, and an excellent restaurant, with delicious food right in the facility. Amazing English breakfast and old York is right across the street and the wall. Tons of shopping restaurants, you name it everything is right there.

We stayed here before when it ws the Best Western Monkbar. Quite a few changes now, but a reasonable spot for an evening. Our room was upgraded to a "De Luxe", which didn't seem to mean much. Whilst a comfortable room, with fortunately good heating and a nice TV, I felt that it showed signs of lack of attention to detail and a hint of decay, particularly in the bathroom. There was a pool of watreer behind the toilet when we arrived, which didn't return once it had been mopped up. There was also a large crack in the end of the bath surround, the top of which had been inexpertly remedied with some mastic. The windows were disgusting, with what appeared to be rotting frames and some rather nasty black stuff. Bar servbice was farcical. The first can of "draught" Guinness had frozen in the fridge and had to be discarded and the half of shandy was most inepertly poured.How many members of staff are required to man and empty bar?! Breakfast was fine and the "complimentary" biscuuits on arrival wre welcomed by me, if not by my wife

A Brilliant friendly welcome
When we arrived at the hotel, early, I went in and spoke to the lady on reception, Hazel, she was fantastic. Friendly and so helpful. I asked if it was ok to park in the car park and pay for the parking straight away. She checked and said our rooms were ready if we would like to check in early. Hazel was so helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable, but one thing, it was so dark with no lights at the dressing table area. I could not believe there is no light at the bottom half of the room. Not a major issue, but if the hotel would like to look into it, room 226, the lighting, especially at this time of year is an issue.

All that glitters is not gold
Also, while I’m on sayings, you get what you pay for. Friendly efficient staff in the superficially glitzy hotel entrance. However, beyond the foyer the shabbiness starts to appear, revealing flaws not apparent In the marketing photography. The bedroom stank oppressively of cheap, overly-fragrant cleaning materials. Communal areas beyond the foyer were decidedly shabby in appearance. Bathroom lights, toilet roll holders were not working or falling off. The shower gel was empty. And the gym equipment was not as shown in the web site photograph (no rowing machine and only one of each piece of equipment there was). All small things, but all combining to take the sheen of what we thought was going to be a really lovely hotel. On the plus side - great location, good value and friendly staff. So all in all recommended - just don’t expect what you see in marketing photographs.

Incompetent
Problem at reception. My booking couldn't be found. Gave booking number. Still a problem. Then all of a sudden it turned up. Went to my room and it hadn't been cleaned. I have never met such incompetence in a chain hotel. Breakfast next morning. No record of my booking. 'They always get it wrong at reception.' I was informed. Hmm...

The hotel was nice but felt for the money it wasn’t particularly special. The staff were polite but not overly friendly. The breakfast was fine. There was no soap or shower gel in the dispensers, which was poor. I can’t really complain about anything but nothing to shout about either. Sorry 😕

Really not the best value for money and it feels like they’re trying to squeeze service and facilities to the bare minimum to make as much money as possible!! I won’t hurry back. I’ve stayed in other places in York for much lower rates and much better quality and there are so many places to choose from if rather find somewhere better than Double Tree Hilton

Very average
There seemed to be a lot of confusion when we arrived, booking eventually located we were given our key cards. I had to ask for directions to our room, after several loops of the first floor we went back downstairs to be told our room was actually outside. Room was small and run down. Marks on the carpet and walls, heater/air con not working so a small heater provided. Gave a very average impression of the hotel, definitely wouldn’t go back for the price
