"Fabulous experience. if you want the wild/lodge experience but still a staffed hotel with a bunch of services then this is for you! "We had a great time at FINCA el Refugio de Papito. The experience will stay with our family forever. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a Pura Vida experience. Whether it was fishing in the pond, seeing the sloths, macaws, iguanas, turtles or herons it was fantastic. Their offers of fresh coconut, plantains, and fresh cane juice were well received. "This review is quite ambiguous; on one hand, the hotel has all the amenities that you want, but on the other hand they are a bit worn down and reminiscing of a better time. It works though, so don’t worry. The biggest drawback of the place is the lack of service best shown by the lack of trust in guests. Let me explain a few examples; - there are pool towels, however if you lose either your voucher or towel, it’s $20 - there is a fussball table, but you have to go to the bar (other building) to pick up the ball - there is gym equipment, but you have to go to reception, have them open the door for you and note every single item that you use, and afterwards you have to go back to reception to get them to re-open the door and note return of said items! Who the hell steals a bench or a 50lbs kettle bell!? If you can live with this nonsense, I still recommend the hotel solely for the pools, not least taking advantage of the happy our in the swim-up bar at the thermal pools and just have your dinner there. Shut out to Greiven the bartender there."
