I have been traveling around the world. This is the first time I was unable to check in when I arrived at the place. When I called to ask where to park (no space to park the car even blocks away), I found out check in instructions. I thought it may tell me where to park. Entering the Check in Instructions, it says you have to check in before 7pm. Otherwise you need to contact them in advance. It was not shown anywhere but was buried layers down. I checked my email. It only says you can check in after 3pm (normal). But didn’t say must before 7pm (never heard of it). No text messages and No emails about this unusual check in way. I called several times. No one picked up a call. I had to book a room at another hotel.

Dear Xing,We are so very sorry you had trouble entering the house last night. You did not respond to our email requests for arrival time or breakfast reservations. We are a very small property with limited staff. We attempted to call you and text you on Wednesday with our after hours procedures but no response from you. After hours phone was sent via text message. Also, we have our after hours phone number posted on the front door, if late arriving guests have issues. Parking is not our responsibility but we do have a lot of information posted in FAQ on our website or if you email us in advance we are happy to assist. Again I apologize for your trouble and very sad you were not able to experience the Bed and Breakfast.

The staff were so welcoming and helpful in making suggestions for things to do or how to go about them. Breakfasts were so delicious and our bed was more comfy than the resort we stayed in at our next stop!

The breakfast was fantastic. The room was old and had smell of toilet drain. The air in the room was stale. Otherwise the area is safe and there good restaurants in the walking distance.

Thank you for your feedback Helen! I'm so sorry you found the room unsatisfactory. There is no toilet in this room so I'm very concerned about what you may have been smelling. This is an old house and it has been a wet season, we have recently painted and all windows function well. I am so sorry to hear you were not completely satisfied as we take great concern with the comfort of our guests.

It's hard to find a real bed and breakfast anymore, and this one is an amazing 1892 mansion with its original charm and decor; comfortable living room to hang out in and free wine and cheese in the evening from 4-6; the innkeeper Sab is so helpful and welcoming, and the breakfast is amazing. It's truly one of a kind!

My husband and I celebrated our 30th Anniversary at Chateau Tivoli, and we could not be happier with our choice of place to stay in San Francisco. It is unique, beautiful, romantic. It is centrally located to all parts of the city, making both walking and driving to the sites of interest easy. The price point is similar or lower than most nearby hotels. Delicious breakfast was served each day, and homemade cookies were always available in the spectacular "lobby". A real gem.

A beautiful place to stay. Comfy bed with a gorgeous room. The option for a private bathroom was lovely. The staff were amazing and made the stay great. Attention to my dietary needs and special requests made the experience perfect.

We’ll be back!
We LOVED staying at the Chateau Tivoli. Our room was opulent and very comfortable. The food was delicious and healthy, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We only wish our stay could have been longer!

Historic and well-tended too. Didn't know that my bathroom, although private, was across the hall. Should have been disclosed somewhere.

The Chateau Tivoli provided a personalized experience in the heart of San Francisco. The room was beautiful, the bed comfortable, the breakfast tasty and filling. All the staff provided personalized, friendly and professional care. It was easy to walk or take a ride to anywhere in the city. I would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely Amazing!
Chateau Tivoli was absolutely beautiful. You can clearly see from the pictures I took. Our room was the entire bottom level that had its own private entrance as well as an entrance that led up to the main floor; both locked and were very secure. The private side entrance was very convenient for going in/out without having to bother anyone or make noise through the main house. It also was easier to bring luggage out since there were only two steps to the outside. We had basically an entire apt..kitchen/dining area, two bedrooms, full bathroom. Everything was extremely clean. Beds were so comfortable (pillows too!). We were supplied with towels, shampoo/conditioner, body wash. Bathroom was very roomy; water pressure was great in the shower. Very quiet and peaceful! Breakfast was fantastic! You receive a menu prior to arrival with many different options. We chose the French toast, which was fabulous! Besides the French toast we had ham, fresh fruit, yogurt that was SO yummy, biscuits. Coffee, juices, tea, water, cereal also available. Everyone, B&B workers & guests, were all extremely friendly!! Area was nice, safe, and easy to walk to stores/restaurants. Convenient to bus line that goes to many restaurants, stores, and all the way up to the different piers. If I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely stay here again!!! A++++!!!

Great location, great staff
Great staff and a great location. Breakfast was excellent. Convenient to Alamo Square in a lovely neighborhood. Walking distance to Divisidero St. Would absolutely stay again and recommend it.

We were very pleasantly surprised with the accommodations. Historical architecture, and decor was amazing. The bed was very comfortable, and the overall value right was great. The host AJ was friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating baby experience. They made our whole experience lovely. We will definitely be back soon.

Our stay here was amazing, my only complaint is that I wish we were able to stay longer than two nights. The staff were lovely and friendly, breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were clean, charming, and beautiful to stay in!

Everything about this property and the innkeepers was exceptional from the moment we first walked through the door. It truly felt like they had though of everuthing and whenever anything unexpected came up there were always attentive and willing to accomidate requests. They went above and beyond, even contacting me by phone when I forgot my ID which was a lifesaver! You would be remiss not to book the chateau if you are in the area and have an appreciation for art and history.

We stayed at Chateau Tivoli for a few days before our wedding. Throughout the planning of this trip the staff at Tivoli were so helpful. AJ helped us coordinate our accommodations for our wedding party. We also had small children with us and we understand that traveling with small children is not always easy however, the staff were so welcoming and made everything comfortable for my family especially during breakfast— thanks Kelly! My husband and I loved our stay and look forward to coming back again. Thank you Chateau Tivoli!

Chateau Tivoli is a place with history and charm. I respect that the owners haven't tried to modernise, rather, they have exposed all its natural features which reveal stories, many of them. We stayed on the lower floor which we assume was originally used as servants quarters. Enough stories in there to keep one entertained for hours! If you are looking for character, inviting hosts, a tasty breakfast and wonderful wine and cheese evenings, this is the place to go. We loved it!

We had the most amazing time at Chateau Tivoli. We stayed in the Lola Montez suite. We had a family of four and it was perfect. Every morning they made us a beautiful breakfast preparing us for our long adventure in and around San Francisco. The staff were kind and very helpful. They made us feel like royalty. The B&B was beautiful inside and out and had a lot of places to explore. I totally recommend any one going to San Francisco to stay there.

Beautiful and adorable house with a sweet family atmosphere, from the very first check in, breakfast, chillin time at the hotel and meeting guests around.. The location is also fantastic, in many ways, easy to get around by foot or even public transport if you like to feel the city vibes. I really enjoyed my stay.

It is very fun to get to pretend for a few days that you live in such a grand beautiful house. The rooms are creative and fun. The early evening wine in the parlor is delightful. It is so fun to get to be right in the middle of the part of San Francisco that is an architectural feast for the eyes in every direction. We so enjoyed our stay.
