Objective: Beach vacation with our two elderly dogs
Agenda: No alarm clock, long walks on the beach with our dogs, lots of time to read or watch a movie, evenings seeking out local seafood eats
The weather was perfect (by our standards) with temps in the 70s during the day and cooler at night. We enjoyed 9 full days on the beach with 7 sunny days and two stormy days.
The Water's Edge condo was a 3 minute walk to the beach. It was clean, well equipped, pleasingly decorated, and included all the amenities we wanted. We especially liked the tile floors for easy sweep up of any dog hair or sand. The outside shower for rinse off helped us avoid tracking very much sand indoors.
On our late afternoon arrival we stopped at Conehead's near the entrance to Barrier Dunes to eat. We would have returned again if they had been pet friendly. This is the closest restaurant to the condo.
So now we have to give a shout out to all the dog friendly places that welcomed us to dine with our 2 dogs in their outdoor seating areas:
Apalachicola Chocolate Company (ice cream and chocolate made on premises, yummy!)
Indian Pass Raw Bar
Provisions
Dockside Cafe
Tamara's Cafe Floridita
Boss Oysters
Oyster City Brewing Company (beer only, but excellent beer!)
Cafe con Leche
Weber's Little Donut Shop
In summary we had a perfectly wonderful time:
Cons: 1. Pool not heated in Dec. 2. Some restaurants closed for annual maintenance.
Pros: 1. Fewer people on beach and everywhere else. 2. No lines, no reservations needed. 3. Weather was comfortable for dogs on the beach.
ps: Our dogs loved the OYSTERBONES, pet supply store, and we loved the Wake and Bake Bread Co. - both in Apalachicola.
