The Space:

Ridgestone is very proud to present to you, The Sanctuary, a beautifully renovated one-bedroom apartment designed to offer guests an exceptional blend of comfort, design, and peace. Set within the Whitbarrow Holiday Village, this luxury self-catering suite has been thoughtfully curated to provide a truly serene and stylish stay. Start long summer evenings out on the balcony, grazing on a cheeseboard as the last light spills over the fells and the sky fades to dusky pink. On crisp winter nights, sink into the sofa with a good book and a soft blanket, letting the glow of the lamps and the hush of the surrounding woodland lull you into complete relaxation.



The open-plan living space is light-filled and welcoming, with large windows that frame views of the surrounding landscape and open onto a private balcony—perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. Inside, a cosy seating area features a Samsung Smart TV, an Apple HomePod for immersive sound, and a plush sofa ideal for relaxing after a day out exploring.



The sleek, modern kitchen is fully equipped with top-of-the-line Siemens appliances, including a combination microwave and grill, induction hob, warming drawer, slimline dishwasher, and integrated fridge-freezer. A Nespresso Vertuo Pop with Espresso Aeroccino is on hand for your perfect morning coffee, and the kitchen is thoughtfully stocked with everything you need to prepare and enjoy simple meals at home.



The bedroom offers a restful retreat, complete with a sumptuous super king bed, a pocket-sprung mattress, high-quality linens, and a second Samsung Smart TV for added comfort. Shutter blinds let you control the morning light while adding to the calming atmosphere.



The en-suite bathroom has a spa-like finish, featuring striking grey Porcelanosa tiles, a generous rainfall shower, and a sculptural stone pedestal basin. Guests are provided with soft towels, luxury toiletries, and robes to complete the experience.



Throughout your stay, you’ll enjoy access to a range of on-site amenities, including a swimming pool, steam room, Jacuzzi, gym, restaurant, bar, and leisure activities such as crazy golf, a giant chessboard, and frisbee football. Whether you're here for a romantic escape or to recharge in nature, The Sanctuary offers the perfect combination of style, privacy, and convenience in the heart of the Lake District.

Ridgestone's guests have access to:



Adult-only luxury studio suite with a super king bed, and a patio with seating off the bedroom.



A Nespresso Vertuo Coffee Machine is provided for your use, along with 4 complimentary pods to get you started. If you’re a regular coffee drinker, we recommend bringing additional Vertuo pods with you to enjoy throughout your stay.



Guests will find a small selection of essential oils in The Sanctuary Suite for use during your stay. These are not a gift to take home, but are thoughtfully provided for use with the steam room to enhance your relaxation experience. Add a few drops to the steam outlet or a small dish of water placed nearby while using the steam room to diffuse the aroma gently.



Parking is provided at the on-site car park, which is just a short walk away. Electric car charging points and designated spaces are available.



Complimentary WIFI is available with a high-speed satellite connection from Starlink



We do not accept pets and respectfully request that guests adhere to this rule!



Arrival is from 4 PM with the reception available until 8PM, and departure on the morning of checkout is 10 AM

PLEASE NOTE!

The on-site restaurant and bar will be closed throughout January 2026. In addition, the swimming pool will be unavailable during February 2026 due to scheduled improvement works.

The Neighborhood:

Follow in the footsteps of Wordsworth, take a walk discovering the beautiful fauna and flora the Lake District has to offer, take a relaxing ride on an Ullswater steamer and enjoy a picnic watching the world go by on the side of the lake. Discover the historical locations of Penrith castle or the Cumbria’s stone circles of Castlerigg. The Lake District is a playground for thrill seekers, from gorge walking, abseiling, white water tubing or the calmer kayaking or archery. Enjoy the pool, Jacuzzi or gym after a spending the day exploring the area.



Dine in the onsite restaurant Eden, in a choice of local gastro pubs, or dine alfresco with some locally sourced produce you have picked up from one of the many farm shops in the area.



Getting Around:

The nearest train station to Whitbarrow Village is Penrith North Lakes Railway Station, located approximately 10 miles to the northeast. This station is on the West Coast Main Line and is served by Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express, and Northern services, offering connections to major cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London.



Another nearby station is Oxenholme Lake District Railway Station, about 25 miles to the southeast, also on the West Coast Main Line. This station provides access to Kendal and other parts of the Lake District. For those exploring the central Lake District, Windermere Railway Station is another option. While farther away, it connects to popular destinations such as Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.



From Penrith North Lakes Railway Station, the 105/D1 bus route offers services to Greystoke Village, passing through scenic rural locations.



While there is no direct bus route to Whitbarrow Village, taxis or other local transport options are available from the train stations to reach your destination. It's recommended to check bus timetables in advance, as services may operate at limited times, especially on weekends or public holidays.



Other Things to Note:

The suite cannot accommodate pets and is completely pet-free!



Bookings can only be accepted from booking holders 18 years or above. The Retreat is not suitable for children. Guests have access to the self-catering private suite with access to the on-site facilities.
