Spirit of 1512 - Udsøgt smag i hjertet af Alfama

STEDET, HVOR DU ER, - CONVENTO DO PARAÍSO
Klosteret blev bygget i begyndelsen af 1512, hørte til oratoriens orden og var derfor et symbol på Oratorio-ordenen, stjernen. Denne pejs, og oprindeligt okitchen komfur, hvor daglige måltider blev kogt. De to små værelser var engang saltning og et vandområde, hvor der stadig er et spor af en pit bag muren. Køkkenet og badeværelset var i det sekstende århundrede korridorer for adgang til hele beboelsesområdet i klosteret.
I 1755 med jordskælvet kollapsede klostret og efterlod kun denne overhaling af det, der var en religiøs bygning i det sekstende århundrede. To graver blev fundet, da genopbygningen af pladsen til en lejlighed i 2013, samt flere elementer i daglig brug og prydsten. Pejsen man kan se det jern hæfteklammer, der er placeret til at holde den vigtigste sten, der brød den 1. december 1755, dagen for alle hellige.
Dette kloster blev kaldt Convento do Paraiso, der navngav gaden, og var en del af det religiøse kompleks, der også omfattede Eremida of Our Lady of Paradise og National Pantheon. Genopbygget i det attende århundrede er nu en boligbygning. I bygningens indgang til højre kan du se kalkstendøren til et af kapellerne

Great place to stay in Lisbon

The property is amazing. It was fun to stay in a place with so much history and that has been remodeled so well. There was a good supply of the basic necessities for the kitchen and bath. The location was very close to the big flea market, the Metro station and many good restaurants and historical destinations. We will stay here again when we return.

Short Break in Lisbon

The property was beautiful. Better in fact than the pictures! João could not have been more helpful. An ideal base to explore Alfama. Highly recommended.

Stunning historical building in perfect location

We loved this historical property and ultimate in interior design. Exactly as the on-line photos depict. Located in a historical precinct in Lisbon, short walk to many top destinations and public transport. Made for a very pleasant stay! Our hosts Joana and Joao were also great from the first moment we made contact and made us feel very welcome - thank you to you both.

Gorgeous place great location

We loved the place and the owner was easy to work with. The only issue is that the place can get really stuffy. Since it’s an old convent there’s a portion of the place with no windows or AC. It was so hot in there.

Excellent apartment, excellent location

We stayed a week and had no complaints. The location is superb for walking around old Lisbon -- if you do not like walking up and down hills, this is not for you. But if you like to wander and explore, this is an ideal base. Also a two-minute walk from a metro and taxi stand. Our family of four each had a bedroom (though the two singles were semi-open to the main room -- if you have multiple snorers, that might be an issue. Two WCs and one bath-shower meant no queuing. We would gladly stay here again.

The property was unique, but the welcoming amenities were sparse.

After trekking up a precipitous hill there was a lack of warmth and welcome. It would have been advantageous to a more thorough explanation of the apartment. It send obvious after spending much time in home always a bit of bread and wine would have been a nice touch. There was a dirth of basic necessities. When the sun goes down the neighborhood might be questionable.

Wonderful apartment in a fantastic neighborhood - worth the stay

We had an amazing time in this wonderful, extraordinary apartment. Very magical, located in old town. Within walking distance to many wonderful sites. The owner was extremely gracious and has a list of things to do and recommend places. We took him up on many suggestions and enjoyed them all.

The apartment is beautiful and like stepping into another time with some modern conveniences!

João was very helpful and has done a beautiful job setting up the apartment. He also had some excellent restaurant suggestions. The apartment is quirky because of being a very old monastery, which adds so much character. I would definitely stay again. It worked well for my husband and I staying in the master bedroom and my sister in the smaller single room (without a real door) because the rooms are on opposite ends of the apartment. We hope to be back in Lisbon soon!

Our stay in Lisbon was everything we could've hoped for and more. Joao's place was beautifully decorated and the size was absolutely perfect for my daughter and her friend, my husband, and me. Joao gave us great recommendations, from the adorable bakery right across street to the restaurant with such amazing fado that we had to go two nights in a row. The location was nearby the train station and central enough to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. I someday hope to return to Portugal, and I know exactly where I'll be staying when I do.

Spirit of 1512 in beautiful Lisbon

We had the best time in Lisbon. The apartment, Spirit of 1512, was the most unique place I have ever stayed. Great location and beautiful interior. The owner Joao, was most attentive. I had washed out a pair of pants, left them on the window sill to dry. When we returned at the end of the day, the pants were missing. I chalked it up to lost pants. Then there was a knock on the door and Joao had taken my pants, had them cleaned properly and returned them. We had a good laugh about it and my host reminded me that all I had to do was ask. So a great place and so much to do in Lisbon, we could have stayed a month.

Perfect!

We fell in love with this place when we saw the photos and weren't disappointed when we saw it in person. It was spacious (for our family of 4), beautifully decorated and in a perfect location. We loved everything about it. Joao was especially helpful with great recommendations and very professional. It was close to the train station and subway to easily access some of the other areas of Lisbon but also close enough to walk to many of the sites we wanted to see. We also loved the café (Uncle George's cafe) that Joao recommended right across the street for our daily breakfast. If you are planning a stay in Lisbon, this is the perfect spot to stay!

Warning - Smells like Raw Sewage

Before you stay please beware We stayed at this accommodation for a week but we're booked for two and had to leave which was both inconvenient and expensive. The apartment has a horrific smell. From the first night we arrived there was a sewage smell throughout the unit. After the first night we asked the owner who acknowledged that yes there was always that smell due to the "low tides" and that it was every where in lisbon. We did not experience this smell in our other rentals in Lisbon. The owner did not offer any solutions to help with the problem and the smell became unbearable so we had to leave after a week. He did refund us 50% from the remaining week - but we do not feel that was fair as it was not in the description that we would be experiencing this dreadful/sickining odor. He justified our 50% by saying that we were leaving b/c it was not suitable for our 2 year old baby - but that was completly fabricated - it was perfectly find for the baby - I guess he was just looking for an excuse to push some of the blame back on us? Also, the owner who lives around the corner dropped by every day both when we were home and not home. My wife felt very uncomfortable with the owner and it was not appropriate to continuously be dropping by. Finally although the apartment is beautiful - I personally really loved the space - but you must know it is quite enclosed with two small windows it actually makes you feel like you are in a basement or cellar. It is cold and musty feeling. My wife referred to it as the "dungeon" On top of all that - My wife, son and me all got sick during our staying here - we can not confirm it was b/c of the apartment - but we certainly have that feeling. We are not complainers -- but this was unacceptable - and I feel like others should be warned - I would not recommend this place at all.

Beautiful, unique, elegantly appointed apartment in a wonderful area of Lisbon

The apartment is too unique to describe – just believe that the pictures are accurate! The host was very helpful, and the apartment is close to the metro, which makes it convenient to visit all areas of Lisbon. The restaurant recommendations of the host are spot on, and try to hit his "Top 10" list of Lisbon sights!

Unique and Amazing Historical Apartment

We felt privileged to have stayed in this historical apartment which is located near the waterfront and the Pantheon. The pictures accurately depict the unique features such as the grand fireplace, vaulted ceiling and dining room. The owner was gracious and friendly, and provided information about nearby restaurants and "top 15 sites" to visit. Pros: Great location, air conditioning in Master Bedroom, updated bathrooms and kitchen Cons: Queen bed in Master Bedroom, limited windows, 1 shower Highly recommend apartment.
