Welcome to Mustang Haven — your ideal mountain retreat tucked within Leatherwood Mountains Resort, a gated community offering horseback riding, tubing, biking, fishing, dining, and miles of scenic trails and streams just beyond your doorstep.

This charming cabin is thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation. The second-floor master suite features a king bed, stunning mountain views, and a private bath with a soothing whirlpool tub. Downstairs, two cozy bedrooms each offer a queen bed and share a bathroom with a walk-in shower. An open loft overlooking the great room provides the perfect nook for reading, quiet reflection, or simply taking in the view. In late fall and winter, enjoy peaceful sunrises from the master and loft windows and colorful sunsets from the front porch.

The spacious great room showcases a beautiful stone wood-burning fireplace, hardwood floors, and large windows that fill the space with natural light. The fully equipped kitchen connects easily to both the front porch and back deck, making indoor-outdoor living a breeze.

Located just minutes from the stables and welcome center, Mustang Haven offers the perfect blend of mountain charm, modern comfort, and convenience. A newly added fenced-in dog pen beside the home connects directly to the porch — so even your four-legged friends can enjoy their mountain getaway!

And now with a brand new hot tub added in February 2024, relaxation is just a soak away!

This home is located in the 4000 acre, Leatherwood Mountain Resort in Ferguson, NC. Our guests are invited to enjoy our Horseback Riding program where you can experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains pristine wilderness by Horseback (reservation required). You will have access to miles of hiking trails, mountain streams, stocked fishing pond, community swimming pool, play ground and tennis courts, creek tubing (seasonal), on-site restaurant with active live music & event calendar (guest advised to check hours when planning meals).

Leatherwood Mountains has surveillance or recording devices on the property. Our neighborhood is very safe and our property very secluded. For added peace of mind, we have security cameras by the gated entrance and common areas. Individual properties may also have cameras on the EXTERIOR of homes. Please be assured they are not directed at private areas, hot tub porches etc.

Holiday Haven!

We had a beautiful Christmas at Mustang Haven cabin in Leatherwood Mountains. We enjoyed hot tub soaks while watching the sun rise and sun set, beautiful hikes along the trails adjoining the property and the coziest sleep we have all had in a long time.

The location and the cabin were terrific. Stunning country and a quintessential cabin. Sadly, the cleanliness was lacking. The cabin’s exterior was full of leaves and cobwebs, which wasn’t all that bad but made it seem like the cleaning crew hadn’t been there in several weeks. Inside, we found many glasses and dishes in the cabinets with remnants of food; food stuck to the cloth placemats; fleece blankets with stains and food stuck to them; etc. The kitchen was decently appointed but things were not terribly well-organized. In general, the upkeep just seemed lacking and sort of dingy. Again, the cabin itself and the property was lovely—I’d just recommend a new cleaning company and perhaps a spring refresh because for the cost for three nights, I expected more. I was also disappointed that there was nowhere to recycle.

Amazing Getaway!

We had a wonderful last minute trip to Mustang Haven. We needed to be nearby a friend whose dad was in hospice, but we also wanted our 3 boys to be able to have a little getaway at the same time. Everything about our stay was incredible. We ran the roads, enjoyed the scenery, and the kids really loved the hot tub! They've already asked if we could go back again this weekend.

The perfect getaway

I was so happy with our stay at this cabin. This was my first experience so I don't have anything to compare it to but I am absolutely happy with our weekend and couldn't ask for more. The only thing I didn't like was that check in was so late and it was a little challenging finding the cabin in the dark. Also the maps are not completely accurate or to scale. We had to find that out the hard way. Other than that absolutely perfect! 10/10 would absolutely recommend and we will be back!

Perfect family getaway

The cabin was so nice and cozy! It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and just the perfect getaway for our family. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed. The view was amazing! We had such a relaxing time! We will definitely be planning another trip back!

Awesome location property set up

Well let’s start with the location and property set up with the horse barns and pastures and property management facilities. Great set up and arrangement. This is a secluded area with good separation from the home sites. Our home was nice and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. There is a need for some updating - stove/oven, blinds and shower curtains. However, it still was a very good home for a short getaway. The Mountain views were great and very private hot tube location. Oh, and very dog friendly which we found to be a plus in our home selection.

Almost perfect

The cabin and location was great. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 rating is because there was a bee hive located at the bottom of the side steps and 3 out of 5 members of our group got bee stings which were not fun and rather painful. We hope they send an exterminator to get rid of this so that future renters don't have to deal with this.

North Carolina Paradise

Mustang Haven and Leatherwood Resort are exactly as described. The house was awesome! We spent a lot of time on the two porches. Great views, mild temperatures, gentle breezes and lots of places to sit and relax. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen has virtually everything you need. The house was spotless and very well maintained. The house is definitely dog friendly with gates on both porches and a nice dog run. The resort is beautiful, with good roads (important in the mountains), a very nice pool, a fun mountain stream for fishing, tubing or splashing around on a summer day. There are also some incredible views for watching sunsets over the mountains. We look forward to returning soon.

The perfect retreat!

My husband is a traumatic brain injury survivor whom was in an ATV accident in October, 2020. After 6 months of challenges, I decided to take him out of town. He has always loved the mountains! This was the perfect place! The cabin itself is absolutely beautiful and was very accommodating to our needs with bedrooms downstairs so he didn't have to go up steps. There was a convenient area for our fur babies and every amenity you could possibly need was provided! We would love to go there again soon!

Sunrise and sunsets were gorgeous

This property was stocked with just about everything. All we had to bring our food and drinks. Even had a curling iron and a pen for our pets to use if needed buy the enclosed dog run was wonderful and safe. The only item we needed was an iron to press our clothes...we looked and couldn't find one on the premise. Great views, internet was very reliable,it's of firewood,. We were a little disappointed the hot tub on the deck wasn't working(stated it was a available beginning in February). But we still had a wonderful time and hope to be back next year

Snowy getaway

We were looking for snow and we found it at Mustang Haven! This home was well equipped and clean. We don't have pets, so we were a little wary of a pet-friendly rental, but the home was super clean and I didn't see any pet hair! The paper products and linens were good quality and the house was well stocked. We especially appreciated the board games and firewood for the wood burning fireplace.

Very nice, well maintained and cared for. A little remote and difficult to get to some larger cities in the area. Bring your own supplies, groceries and liquor are a bit of a drive away. Staff was very cordial and friendly

All round impressive

We booked a short stay as a break during Covid restrictions for my husband daughter and myself. The house was very clean, and lived up to the description. Great to have such a nice place to visit with our dogs who loved the walks and swimming in the creek. Everyone we met was very helpful. Really enjoyed our visit.
