Another nice stay... Shame about COVID breakfast!
The Greenbank is a lovely, if slightly limited on services, hotel on the bank of the Penryn River, overlooking the historic port of Falmouth.
I have stayed there many times over the years and, whilst this stay was not unusual, I think that as I have travelled more, the more I feel that the Greenbank is falling behind the competition on the beachside of the town.
This is one of my first trips to the UK since Brexit and COVID, but is was quite surprised at just how different the breakfast dining situation was. Not having a buffet is fine (obviously) and there seemed to be many smiling staff, but there really didn't seem to be any coordination between them.
Not an unpleasant stay by any means, but my stress levels were unusually high during breakfast service... It seemed that the rigor required to run a hotel dining room was absent on this occasion.
The room was the usual 'bijou' (small) affair, but it was exceptionally clean (as usual) and the in-room experience is still one of the best I have sampled in the Southwest of the UK.
There is little to be done about the weaknesses of this place, the age of the building and the size of its site forbids the expansion of the bedrooms on the land side (perhaps I should upgrade) and any addition of gym or spa facilities, but next time I'm in Falmouth, I may more strongly consider the other options on the beach.
