Tucked away on one of the more quiet islands of the Bocas del Toro province in Panama, there is an ecolodge called 'Cocovivo'. Through a long chain of friends of friends, I discovered this little paradise where peacefulness is key. Originally set up as a co-working space, the owners of Cocovivo made this place a home away from home. Set up with the help of an indigenous Ngobe-Guble family, everything is ecological: yes, that means a compost toilet. If that does not convince you yet, then maybe the possibility to kayak surrounded by dolphins will. Or you can practice yoga on your stand-up paddleboard. Or jump from the diving board right in the Caribbean sea and explore the reef. Or go on a jungle walk and count all the sloths you can see. Or eat delicious food made with very very local ingredients. Or see the stars in the sky reflected in the water bioluminescent plankton. Who needs Bocas' party scene when you have the 'disco' lights above and underneath you right? Freshly caught lobsters and seafood, and the best gourmet breakfasts and dinners prepared by the owners. We shared laughs, stories, and karaoke in the evenings with other guests. They also coordinate tours and other activities on the beaches and surrounding islands. Also I recommend this wonderful place for a Pilates retreat - Yoga - Family reunion promotion, etc."

"Fantastic stay. Clean rooms, beautiful property, great service, good food and cocktails, excellent front of house staff for arranging transportation. The views from the main restaurant, beach bar and ocean front room, were well worth it. Watching the surfers was very entertaining. Staff went above and beyond, including making sure we caught our water taxi and driver, to organizing a tv to watch the Super Bowl. The only caution would be that the hotel is out of the action. "Nous avons passés 2 jours, dans une chambre puis un bungalow dans la jungle. Experience au top ! Le temps n a pas toujours etait de la partie mais les hotes sont adorables, attentifs et mettent tout en oeuvre pour que tout soit facile et agréable pour nous ! Encore merci :) materiels a disposition pour snorkiling, paddle. Nourriture le soir excellente. Franchement allez y les yeux fermés !!! Encore merci à Nathalie et son mari qui sont vraiment des personnes super !"

"The view was amazing, we were on the top floor. We got breakfast included and it the vouchers were always ready for us in the morning. The only thing my husband didn’t like is the key system because you leave the key at the front desk but he didn’t feel it was safe because he felt anyone could just walk up and say they are in our room, they didn’t validate that the key was ours. BUT besides that the room was lovely, staff were friendly and we had a blast! "

"Tropical private paradise. Beautiful rustic bungalow right on aqua waters. We came on off season and felt like we had the island to ourselves. There are kayaks to use as well. If you want more restaurants and life come in the main dry season. There is coral snorkeling nearby and an amazing indigenous guide and chef named Calypso who showed us all the local animals, sloths, monkeys, frogs, caiman and plant medicines. James the host answered any questions or needs we had. Be sure to ask him a lot...
