A typical house on the banks of the river on the way from Battambang to Siem Reap. GDP in Cambodia is only around $1,000 per annum but I expect it's rather less for many rural families - it looks idyllic but obviously there's no running water or electricity around here and it's often very difficult to access healthcare due to poor state services and corruption.
Built in the 10th century on the top of a hill, the temple is reachable by climbing a long flight of steps. Like in many of the temples in Angkor, there’s a coexistence of Hindu and Buddhist elements and it reminds, in a much smaller scale, the majestic Angkor Wat. The most scenic part, in my opinion, is the stairs. The 370 steps are framed by lushy trees that offer shade during your hike and it steep verticality, drag your eyes to the top temple. http://nomadswind.com/cambodia-travel-diary-2-battambang-2/
If you continue up the hill from the Killing Caves, you will find the temple that has been built in recent years thanks to donation from Khmer people. The temple is nice and colorful with some monkeys hanging around, but the best part is the view: you can see the green countryside surrounded by the mountain at the horizont. http://nomadswind.com/cambodia-travel-diary-2-battambang-2/

#market While walking around Phnom Penh I came across this local street market. Locals selling everything from fish, and meat to fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Definitely worth the visit! Market is located near the palace and occupies a couple blocks of side streets. So fun to see what locals in Cambodia buy at the "grocery store".

Great time at Family Batcave Homestay
We had a great stay at Family Batcave Homestay. It felt like a more authentic experience. Our host was lovely. He gave us a tour with his wife, or he organized for us to visit a variety of sites in and around Battambang. Plus, the food was great. I highly recommend it.

Ghost town
We did not stay there, the house is in a subdivision that has no people living nearby. In front of the house were dead leaves everywhere. The area doesn’t look safe for visitors to stay there.

Clean, safe, and very comfortable stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The breakfast was amazing and everything was well maintained. We felt very welcome and would definitely stay here again.
