I stayed at The Oberoi, Mauritius recently, and while the housekeeping was excellent, several issues affected my overall experience.
Before my arrival, I had clearly communicated my preferred title as “Ms” during pre-arrival correspondence. Despite this, I was addressed as “Mrs” upon check-in and in printed materials. More disappointing still, my name was also misspelled on the welcome letter.
Shortly after arrival, I received a welcome email from the General Manager asking about my stay. I appreciated the gesture and responded the next day, politely raising these issues. Unfortunately, I never received a reply-neither during my stay nor in the weeks after I had checked out.
While many staff members were warm and professional, there were moments of indifference. On several occasions, we said “thank you” and received no response, which was surprising and disappointing.
Additionally, I found a hair in one of my dishes, which was both unpleasant and unacceptable at a hotel of this standard.
I also noticed that several cotton bud packages in the bathroom contained brownish stains or residue on the buds.
The resort is beautiful and has great potential, but the lack of follow-through, attention to detail, and basic courtesy left me underwhelmed by what should have been a seamless luxury experience.
