Casa Stella

  • Casa Stella is a house on two levels located in the historic center of Varenna. The house with an ancient structure was completely renovated in 2022 with a modern style and high quality finishes.

    Its central location makes it the ideal place to experience Varenna in its entirety with its proximity to its lake, ferries, boats, but also bars, restaurants, ice cream parlors, clubs, shops…. Exactly where you would like to be in Varenna!

    The house is on two floors with a garden and a large equipped terrace where you can spend the summer evenings savoring the local cuisine and sipping excellent Italian wine at sunset. The property is accessed from a private courtyard typical of the alleys of Varenna. You are greeted by a large living area where the refined style of the furnishings and the exposed wooden ceiling make the environment refined and particularly welcoming. The fully equipped kitchen, the comfortable armchairs where you can relax after lunch and the large window that leads directly onto the terrace, complete the living room. On the lower floor reached via the internal staircase, there is the double bedroom, the second bedroom with two single beds and the bathroom with large shower, all characterized by original stone ceilings and fine wooden furniture. From the lower floor there is direct access to the garden which completes the structure.

    Casa Stella has all the comforts: Wifi, coffee machine, toaster, fridge, oven, food processor, microwave, washer/dryer, hairdryer, vacuum cleaner and everything needed for full use. It can accommodate 4 people - smoking is prohibited internally - pets are not allowed -

Wonderful mix of rustic and modern- excellent location!

We loved having a quiet space to relax in with a little Garden and views of the lake! We cooked dinner twice and the kitchen had everything we needed- including seasonings and olive oil! All the amenities are very high end and modern but the home is set into an old Space with some areas with rock ceilings paired with modern glass doors- very authentic but comfortable! We had cool air through open windows at night with a peaceful neighborhood- even though there’s a hotel a block away and it was July!! And the extra bonus was the small beach a block down the hill!! We rated this place as our favorite for our whole stay in Europe! The towels were a little small and thin but didn’t really matter because the bathroom and shower and water pressure were all perfect so towels were just an after thought.

Our stay at Casa Stella was everything we wanted from our trip to Varenna and Lake Como.The accommodation is top-notch and exquisitely designed. Beautiful, well equipped kitchen, a great living/dining space, comfortable bedrooms and a large bathroom. The way the apartment has retained some of the original features of the building as well as including all the modern conveniences blends to create a relaxing, homely feel.The lake view terrace is wonderful for lazy breakfasts and evening meals. To the side there is a small garden with a secure gate access to the path at the back making trips to the nearby beach easy.As well as mooching around Varenna, we visited the Villa Cipressi/Villa Monastero and Botanical gardens, Fiumelatte (take the Greenway dei Patriarchi path there or back as a pleasant walk through the quieter countryside), Castello di Vezio up on the hill and the village of Vezio – all on foot. The ferry to Ballagio and Menaggio is also a short walk and gives access to the rest of Lake Como.3 of us spent 10 days here to mix relaxation/days out on Lake Como and Casa Stella was the perfect base for this.Some practical notes on the location:Beware the mossies after dark anywhere near the lake.We had a car and parking is quite expensive in Varenna but we never had a problem getting a space at the nearby town car park.Castello di Vezio opens at 10:00. We set of early, to beat the heat, and had to wait. Fortunately, we could breakfast at Hotel Portichello.
