The property was generally clean and tidy and the lock box made check in easy once we got there. But a few key things were troublesome: the linen on the beds were stained and the bedding had a terrible smell. The apartment was also not in Varenna itself, it’s in Fiumelatte which is 1.5km from Varenna which made getting to it very difficult with bags without a car from the Ferry/train station and meant a 20 min walk to the main town each morning and evening.
Check in instructions were clear if we had a car but no mention of how to get there if coming by train or ferry, and communication from the host was almost non-existent - the apartment was ready well before the 4pm check in time but was not communicated to us at all despite specifically asking if we could check in early. Also, don’t be misled by the images, the actual apartment has no view of the lake and is tucked away behind other houses.
