The Neighborhood:
A stay in Portscatho offers the perfect mix of coastal beauty, village charm and classic Cornish experiences. This picturesque fishing village sits on the Roseland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known for its peaceful beaches, scenic walks and unspoilt countryside.
From the house, you can easily explore the South West Coast Path, which runs through the village and offers stunning cliff-top walks with views across Gerrans Bay. Along the way, you’ll find beautiful beaches, including Pendower and Carne, two expansive sandy bays perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, beachcombing, or simply relaxing with a picnic. Or at the Nare hotel if you fancy something a bit more upmarket!
In the heart of Portscatho, you’ll find welcoming places to eat and drink. The Plume of Feathers and The Standard are both highly regarded traditional village pubs serving great food and local ales. The Hidden Hut is a fantastic spot right on the beach for snacks, takeaway and lunch with sea views. They also hold famous feast nights in the warmer months.
A short drive away lies the elegant harbour village of St Mawes, where you can wander the waterfront, visit St Mawes Castle, or take the scenic passenger ferry to Falmouth. You'll find a plethora of wonderful restaurants, boutique shops, pubs and more. The ferry journey offers wonderful views across the Fal Estuary and is a lovely way to reach Falmouth’s shops, restaurants and the National Maritime Museum.
Nearby Caerhays Castle and Beach make a wonderful day out, with dramatic coastal scenery and beautiful gardens that are particularly stunning in spring when the camellias and magnolias bloom.
A visit to the neighbouring village of Veryan is also worthwhile to see its famous roundhouses, distinctive thatched cottages said to have been designed to prevent the devil from hiding in corners.
With stunning beaches, charming villages, coastal walks and excellent food nearby, Portscatho is an ideal base for exploring the Roseland Peninsula and enjoying the best of Cornwall’s coast.
