We booked this knowing very well that this was a shed redone to be a little quaint cottage on the springs. It was a cold week after Christmas so my husband & I were excited to snuggle up and enjoy our first honeymoon after 9 years of marriage! We arrived and found the fireplace not working. When I reached out to owner she informed me she knew about it last week and can't get a replacement until the following Friday & the mini split was efficient enough to keep the place warm. We didn't feel that would be true so we bought a heated blanket just in case. When we came back from the store their was a very moldy smell in cottage. At 7:30pm I sent owner a message about the smell & some pictures of the mold & frog poop covering the inside of the mini split. After a very rough night of trying to breath, I contacted the owner again in the morning at 9ish am asking if she received my message and pictures. She responded with the question "was there anything you liked about the cottage?". I was very confused and let her know that we would not be staying another night in the mold. She then responded with "Fully expected from your 1st text!" I was floored by this response, as my first text was asking how to work the fire place! After several text back and forth about the complaint and was also accused that I did not fully read and expect a cottage in the woods and was just trying to get out of the rental. And the call to Vrbo was not much help either and left it up to the owner. We left and found a beautiful place to save our honeymoon on different platform, and there were no problems! Anyways, after that Friday owner arrived at property and apologized for the condition of the mini split and stated she would issue a refund (not a full refund though) when she got back. I waited 2 weeks and received nothing and contacted owner again asking if she knew the status of our refund. She stated no, and she would find out tomorrow. She contacted me the next day and said that Vrbo stated they will refund it by the 27th. I recieved an email conformation that day. This tells me she didn't even bother giving a refund until I contacted her 2 weeks later. My advice, go through another site and if you choose this property request updated pictures, like ask for them to be taken when you ask! And if you have to go through the refund process, be a squeaky wheel!! Like my title says, I wish I could upload pictures, it was so unclean...and she charged me a cleaning fee!
