This dog-friendly Victorian Lovely is nestled in the valleys intersecting the upstate woodlands and those famous Vermont maples. Two bedrooms-- one queen and one twin make it perfect for couples, small families or groups of friends. Outside you'll enjoy a lovely, shared, half-acre green with colorful flower beds, outdoor dining and fire pits, and a babbling brook.
If you're feeling adventurous, just "beyond", bordering the yard, lies Salem Art Works: a sculpture park, arts center and artist's community. Our location in the hamlet of Salem means you’re just a short walk to our petite, historic downtown. Visit On a Limb Bakery, the Fort Salem Theater, Jacko's, the Historic Courthouse and more.

Yellow Door Inn proudly earned the title of Best Lodging in Washington County for 2024.

The apartment was absolutely PERFECT. Our reservations were for 3 days, but a calender snafu caused us to cut it to 2, Klara & Greg contacted us promptly and were able to change it without too much hassle. They even ensured that we would be able to check in an hour earlier because of the mix-up. Coming back to the apartment after dinner our first night, it was delightful to drive down the street to find the tree in the front of the house was lit from head to toe, beckoning us to this lovely place. The amenities throughout the apartment were appreciated: charging stations at each bedside table, an umbrella at the front door, shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower, coffee, fully stocked kitchen. Much appreciated the fresh eggs in the fridge too, we just weren’t up to cooking. The artwork and plants around the apartment were beautiful as well. Made a loving touch throughout. When searching for a place for a weekend, that wasn’t too far from our home, the Yellow Door came up. It was so cute. I will admit, I did no research on the town. We just needed to get away after 2 months of stress from other obligations. Restaurants were only 20-30 minutes away. It was a very relaxing place, we came home recharged. Staying in this charming house was a truly delightful experience for my husband and I! The house is a duplex with our quarters being completely private on the lower level. The hosts live in the other unit above. We never ever heard them. Ever! Nestled in a picturesque, quaint town, it felt like we’d stepped into a storybook. The town itself is small, with only two restaurants and a sweet community theater that hosts local plays—a perfect touch that adds to its welcoming vibe. We walked to dinner at the local restaurant each night, and also walked to the theater. It was spectacular. The house’s grounds were stunning, with lovely gardens and a peaceful atmosphere that made it easy to relax and unwind. Were we free to enjoy the yard. Our hosts were fantastic, always responsive and genuinely caring, making sure we had everything we needed. If you’re looking for a quiet, charming escape with a touch of small-town magic, this is the place to be!

Everything was wonderful. It was pet friendly. We had many of everyday essentials in the property. Wi-Fi allowed me to stream with casting my movies and news. We had a fun time driving around. It is very scenic. We went to a bakery, the art exhibit, and two farmers/homemade goods places. Delicious Strawberry preserves at the farmer's market Saturday. It packed a punch. Very comfortable queen size bed. Newer model washer/dryer are in the apt. Hosts were very helpful and gracious.

We enjoyed another great stay at the Yellow Door Inn. The home and gardens are lovely and Klara and Greg provide a welcoming presence. We visited many of our favorite places in both NY and Vermont and enjoyed some of the restaurant suggestions made by our hosts. We will be back!

The apartment is roomy, clean and comfortable, Vrbo hosts are very accommodating. We considered many options and knew that we made the right decision as soon as we walked in. We invited local family over; it rained but the kitchen, living room and dining room were perfect for the evening. Will recommend to family and friends in the future.

My son and I had the privileged of staying in this beautiful home. There were many lovely details, interesting art, beautifully appointed kitchen, nice amenities in the bathroom etc. A very comfortable cozy place. While there I believe the biggest snow storm of the season happened, owners were wonderful about shoveling us out.

This is our second and longest stay at Yellow Door. Klara and Greg are excellent hosts. The accommodations are clean and comfortable, and there is plenty to do! There is even a bean bag chair which my Grandsons loved. There are some nice added touches such as local fresh eggs, and coffee so you won't have to worry about breakfast your first morning there. Two thumbs up!

very clean place to stay, well organized first floor apartment, the owners live on the second floor, we didn't feel them (in a good way). In the kitchen you have everything you need to cook, so better bring your own groceries.

The apartment was clean, spacious (for 2) and very pleasant. We enjoyed the full kitchen, and the grounds were beautiful and relaxing. It was a pleasure to return to after a full day.

Wow! The hosts have thought of everything, from the moment you walk in you easily find all you need. Cabinets are labeled for easy access, extra hooks are provided in the bathroom, tissues by all the beds and extra blankets in the living room. We easily make ourselves at home. They did a beautiful job restoring the property. Cell signal is quite sketchy traveling to the house. It is best to be prepared for this and know you may need to restart your phone once your arrive. this was all we needed to regain a signal and access the check in code . I would also suggest new mattresses. We did have some trouble sleeping on the queen bed due to the mattress. The town is very quiet and peaceful. We drove about 35 minutes to nearby towns in Vermont while we were there.

What a pleasant experience to find such a lovely VBRO in the hometown. Nicely furnished, adorned with original artwork and the exterior is beautifully landscaped. Strategically located in the town, we definitely look for availability on our future visits!

We stayed in Salem for a long weekend while visiting SPAC in Saratoga Springs. We loved the area as well as the apartment. The place was very comfortable and the backyard was a lovely retreat for us and our dog. Would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

We stayed in this lovely Victorian house, ground floor apartment. It was so wonderfully comfortable. Klara and Greg provided everything you could possibly need. And they are just the nicest, sweetest people ever. The apartment is in the historic area of Salem. The history of the town was fascinating. The artwork around town was interesting to see. We also took a short walk/hike nearby through the snow. Keep in mind there are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby. We liked the Burger Den (diner food) that was about 12 minutes away. There’s a Hannaford grocery store about 20 minutes away so we cooked at the apartment. We just loved the peaceful nature of the area. Great place to stay and decompress.

What a spot for a weekend getaway! It's clear that this home has been very lovingly maintained and/or restored, and that a lot of thought is put into preparing it for each guest. The decor is mesmerizing, and it is super comfortable. The property backs up to Salem Art Works, so it's easily accessible for a run or a stroll through the sculpture gardens. Manchester, VT is a 30 minute drive and a great place to spend the day; hiking trails at Equinox Mountain are gorgeous and you could easily spend an entire day doing that alone. Great communication with hosts. I would come here again and again!

Klara and Greg have a lovely home in upstate New York with special touches that make their place one of kind. From the art on the walls and other aesthetic touches to the backyard garden and proximity to Salem Art Works... it was a wonderful place for us to stay, relax, and use as home base for our daily adventures.
