Three schist houses being restored at the village of Cunqueiros, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, form the Casas da Encosta project. Here it’s possible to relive the life history and culture of the region’s people in the comfort of a typical Portuguese village. According to the owner, Nuno Caldeira, the houses are being restored following the local construction tradition where schist, clay and wood are featured. One of them, Casa da Lagariça, has already opened.

The House of Lagariça consists of 2 bedrooms, each with a double and a single bed, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room. We have the terrace so guests can enjoy views of the landscape. We have capacity for 6 adults and the possibility of including an extra bed or crib for a child.

The House of Lagariça is located in a group of old shale houses, which are connected by a set of walkways (Quelhas). With maximum capacity of 6 people Lagariça House is the ideal place for families and friends staying together. Visit us and explore the best that our territory and its people have to offer.

There is no breakfast service. However, we do provide a welcome basket with locally sourced and seasonal produce: homemade bread, jams, olive oil, liqueurs, arbutus brandy, etc.

Besides being able to dine on the outdoor terrace, you can wander freely through the village, where in addition to a zone cluster shale has yet to explore the riverside 5 Km to the nearest village, Penafalcão. Under the summer sun, are waiting for their immense fresh water wells. At the end of the day you can always return to the House Lagariça and enjoy a late afternoon on the terrace listening to the birds singing. When winter knocks, you will have the use of the fireplace for some unforgettable evenings accompanied by tasting of regional products.
