Small Town Florida

  • Three bedroom, two bathrooms in this open floor plan house. Walk in showers in both bathrooms. All doorways were widened to allow room for wheelchairs, as well as the master shower. Property is fenced all the way around, will allow your dogs to visit (no cats) as well as plenty of room to park a large RV, camper, or boat. Large covered front porch to sit and watch a variety of birds and wildlife. Only minutes away from Weeki Wachee State Park as well as Homosassa Wildlife Park. About an hour north of Tampa/Busch Gardens, Clearwater/sandy white beaches, and two hours west of Orlando/everything you can think of. Homosassa and Crystal River have excellent fishing opportunities as well as swimming with manatees.

We really enjoyed the Mermaid Shack, everything was perfect for us and the dogs. It was total tranquility and we would certainly stay again.

Doug and Terri do an outstanding job of making the Mermaid Shack feel like home. Place is immaculate, and they even have coffee availale ! They are available for any questions or if you need anything. Home is close to stores and restaurants. We enjoy the Bay

Perfect!!!

This house was perfect for our stay to visit and attend the Blueberry Festival! The decor was amazing and 3 bedrooms is a major plus! We throughly enjoyed our stay! One of my top 5 stays and we use these apps a lot! Thank you so much and hopefully it will be available for future stays!

Great layout and yard

We enjoyed the close proximity to Brooksville as well as the open living layout of the house. Our dogs had fun in the yard and both decks were so nice. Thanks for letting us stay!

Mermaid Shack

Enjoyed our stay, spacious open floor plan. Had everything you could need and more. Dogs loved the big yard and roaming. We will definitely stay here again. Thanks for sharing your home.

Great vacation stay!

We loved the Mermaid Shack! Property was exactly as advertised, no issues, very clean and great communication with the property managers. Lots of little touches gave the place a lot of charm, and our dog loved roaming around the huge fenced in yard!

Awesome second stay !! Great place to unwind!!

We just love the Mermaid Shack ! It’s just so cozy and relaxing.There are many places to explore close by especially if you love nature . Our hosts , Terri and Doug were very responsive and thoughtful like they were from our first stay. We would not hesitate coming back again in the future.

Great week staying at the "Mermaid Shack". Terri is thoughful of all needs for a great stay. Home was spacious, clean and comfortable. Great responsive communication with host. Looking forward to return in the future.

Wonderful stay

Something for everyone

Nice clean place to stay, not in the center of everything but close to everything. Relaxing front porch and shaded parking for two vehicles. The fenced yard is great if you have a dog or two. Owners are very nice and available to answer questions and solve problems. Would gladly stay there again.

Mermaid Shack

Lovely shack. Owners went above and beyond thinking of everything needed. We had a great time. Only one minor issue was a hole in the fence and the few low spots where a dog could easily jump over. Would stay again.

The house was perfect for what we needed. It was a clean, safe and comfortable environment for my sisters and our kids. The large fenced in yard was great for the toddlers to explore and sitting on the front porch watching the lizards and bunnies was a highlight for the kids. Counting the amount of mermaids in the house was fun for the kids as well. The hosts provided everything that could have been thought of. Communication with the hosts was great as well.We came down to Florida to support my parents through my dad's surgery and he unfortunately made his way to Heaven the day of checkout. I messaged the hosts about possibly needing a late checkout and they were compassionate and understanding of the situation. I would recommend this place to others.

Late Christmas gift

Wow! Love it! Was my first impression when I walked in the house. Yard was hugh, wonderful for the grands and grand dogs. Place was close to everything we went to. We will definitely use them again!

This is our 4th time at the Mermaid Shack and won’t be the last . The property has continued to improve with time . We were very comfortable . It was very clean . We were able to sleep very we no you’re fine. What was that sound? No, it’s usll because the beds were comfortable, and all other rooms were well equipped and supplied ( laundry room, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room. ) The living room was cozy . AC worked great! And the grounds were just perfect to walk around for our pet dog as well as us . There were lots of birds , squirrels and some bunny rabbits to observe. Last but not least , our hosts were wonderful and responsive. Thank you Terri and Doug !

Country Bliss

This property is the definition of peace. It is possible to completely disconnect here. Plenty of space for fur babies! We loved it! Definitely will come back.

Great location!

This place was the definition of peaceful! We all found something that we loved about our two month stay. From the wildlife to the privacy. This location checks all those boxes. Our dogs loved the gated yard and they also go to explore all the wildlife. Communication with the owner was seamless all the way through! We would definitely stay again!

Every stay gets better.

It was our family’s 3rd time to stay at the Mermaid Shack. Terri and Doug have kept this place new ! Even though we were happy with it before , we noticed that they have put in additions and new changes to the property and home itself that made it even more comfortable to stay in . Some of our favorites were the comfortable beds , recliners, efficient washing machine , dryer and most of all , AC And in their usual fashion, our hosts, Terri and Doug continued to be very accessible if we ever needed anything.Thank you so much ! We are sure to be back again in the future

Thanksgiving trip

We had a wonderful stay at this property! It is so cute and comfortable, it felt like we were in our own home. Decor is fabulous! Quiet area with lots of space to roam. Close to many activities, restaurants, and shopping. The hosts are very caring and responsive and you can tell they want their guests to enjoy their stay. Everything you could possibly need is at the property making this the perfect place to relax. Speaking of relaxing, we spent many hours on the front deck in the rocking chairs just watching the world go by. I give this property five out of five stars! You won’t be disappointed staying there!

Mermaid Shack Staycation

Our recent 5 week stay at the Mermaid Shack was very pleasant. The hosts were very accomodating and quick to answer questions. The property is definitely rural but close to grocery stores, pharmacies, beaches and other attractions. The home was very clean and everything was supplied as listed in the vrbo description. It was nice sitting on the front porch watching all the birds, squirrels and even a tortoise. The only thing I would point out is you are not within walking distance of any attraction or stores as this is a more remote location. Definitely a great place for a family and pets to run around.
