The space
Casa do Retiro is located in the heart of
Ribeira Lima, in the village of Fontão,
one of the most picturesque villages of
the Minho region in northern Portugal.
Ponte de Lima, the oldest Portuguese
town stands 7km away and Viana do
Castelo, where long white sand beaches
contrast with slopes of vineyards and
farms, is only at a 15 km distance.
Manor Casa do Retiro is part of a 10ha
farm exhibiting the typical architecture
of the region. It is surrounded by fields
and trees and encircled by stone walls,
providing great privacy and a sense of
peace.
The house stands amid a highly forested
area, surrounded by the imposing Serra
D´Arga and the plain of Rio Lima,
combining a beauty worthy of a romantic
painting with a privileged location.
A clear water brook crosses the farm,
inviting to a bath or trout fi shing.
Th e land is intended for corn plantation
for animal feed purposes.
After crossing the emblazoned entrance
gate, we come to an open and ample
yard that leads to a large stone staircase
and the manor’s main entrance.
Next to the main façade of the house
there are various farm premises, amongst
which an old cellar and barn that lead
to a monumental old granite threshing
fl oor, with 4000 metres, deemed to be
the largest in Portugal.
Th e house has a beautiful garden and
pool, which face a dazzling scenario of
mountain ridges where the blue colour
of the sky mingles with the green of the
trees, and the peaceful silent environment
invites to dreaming and introspection,
away from daily stress.

fontão village, in one of the most picturesque
villages in Minho, is the Casa do
Retiro. It is located 7 km from Ponte de
Lima, the oldest village in Portugal and
15 km from Viana do Castelo, where the proximity
of the beaches contrasts with the vast
area of vineyards and farms.
The Retiro House is inserted in a
quinta de 10ha, built in the typical
Minho architecture.
Surrounded by vegetation and surrounded by
granite walls, it offers a great

to a retreat.

Serra D'Arga and the plain of the Lima River,

On the farm there is also a stream of
clear and pure waters,where you can take
bathe and fish for trout.
The existing land is intended for the cultivation
of maize, which is intended for fodder for
cattle.
Through the emblazoned gate of the
entrance, we can find a clear courtyard
that leads through a
large granite staircase at the main entrance to
the house.
The main façade is surrounded by several
granite farm dependencies among
which stands out an ancient winery and a
barn leading to a monumental threshing floor
with 4000 meters in granite,
considered the largest in Portugal.
It is also composed of a beautiful garden
from where you can enjoy a stunning scenery
of mountains where green and
blue intertwine and silence invites
to dreams, serenity and introspection,
ideal environment for escaping stress and
living with nature.
