    This oceanfront cottage is located on the beautiful West End of Oak Island! You are just seconds from "Barefootin" on the beach!



    This unique home is long and wide, giving plenty of space for your family to enjoy their stay. Enjoy amazing ocean views from anywhere in the kitchen and living room. Windows span the entire front of the home giving great sunset views. This home does not have a private beach access, but is located right next to the public access. Just a few feet from the base of the ramp, you can cross over into the parking lot to access the beach!



    Those who stay in the front room (Full & Twin) will wake up to the the shimmering blue ocean! The primary bedroom has a connected bathroom and even an ocean view from the room with a Queen & Twin bed! The room behind the kitchen has a Full & Twin bed. The room in the back Right has a large King bed.



    There is a large well stocked kitchen where you can make your favorite meals. The kitchen flows nicely into the dining area and living area.

We enjoyed our stay and loved being on the west end of the island. I do feel like the pictures advertised are not updated to show the house accurately. Outside is nothing like what is shown regarding the view and landscaping around the house. Everything is grown up along with sand dunes taking most of the view. It wasn’t horrible but I was expecting what the pictures showed. The inside could be updated to look a little nicer (wall in one bedroom was damaged and the bathroom (connected to the bedroom) had a small area of dirt stains between the sink and shower. (Maybe where water had leaked out and didn’t get wiped clean, etc) I did like the space that each room gave and we had plenty of beds if needed. I would also recommend a mattress pad to go under the sheets to help with cleanliness. Thanks!

Great location and a good amount of space for a group of people. Definitely not the most comfortable rental. Minor updates could make drastically improve this rental.1) it’s dark at night! Remove the dark shades ans replace with light colored shades2) kitchen has lots of pots, pans, utensils but NO POTHOLDERS! I used a left behind beer cozy to get things out of the oven. Pizza is a common meal at the beach. Get a pizza cutter. 3) liquid soap for all sinks. The house says it supports several people- the slivers of bar soap provided is not enough for bathing and frequent had c4) maybe fix the screen door latch so it can be closed while INSIDE the house5) bathrooms: adding a suction cup mounted soap holder would be very helpful in the smaller bathroom also consider removing some artwork and putting up shelves for toiletry bag storage. Also, maybe a couple more hooks to hang towels, wet bathing suits.6) there weren’t any checkout instructions other than setting the thermostat to 74. So if there is more, please list it.

Family Friendly!

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The house was as the pictures described. Linens were provided and the kitchen was well stocked with anything you could possibly need. We did experience some of the stuff in the other reviews but nothing that was to write home about. My kids got a kick out of the welcome bag with our supplies! It is on a good section of the beach where it's not really crowded. The house is kid friendly!! We hope to be back!

Yes please!

The barefootin' was the PERFECT sister getaway! The house was exactly what was promised, clean, roomy and the oceanfront views were amazing! Everyone had space to "be", and we had space to gather for meals, conversations, and card games. The host was incredibly attentive to our needs and made last-minute arrangements when an unforeseen issue arose. They made the whole process very smooth and stress-free! We will be back!

we selected this home due to the one level and ramp for my handicap mother. the decking is in bad shape, boards lifted and nails sticking out. the mattresses were also the worst thing i’ve ever slept on. we ended up having to buy air mattresses for everyone to sleep on. also even though it is “oceanfront” you have no access to beach from property. you must exit and go to public access which was difficult for my mother. other properties had a path from property to access but this one requires you to walk to road then to access.

Not really clean

Great location. While the living areas were clean, the dishes, silverware, cups, glasses were not. All the coffee cups still had price stickers on the side of them. The silverware drawer was gross. Plates and glasses were dirty in cabinets. We spent much of the vacation cleaning dishes before we used them. The bed sheets appeared to be new and not washed as they still had packaging creases on them. What else did they not clean? Also had to chase down the host to get the code to unlock the door after the check-in time. Very disappointing.

Great views but needs some work.

Overall our stay was adequate. The house is mostly as described, older home with some updated features. The views were superb and the location made up for most of our dislikes. We experienced some of the same issues as other guests have remarked about, loose faucets in the bathroom, worn doors, some broken blinds, and dirty dishes. Additionally, the mattresses are worn and need replacing (springs felt on two beds) and the property needs a routine bug treatment. The “updated” areas appear haphazardly completed and the electrical is not up to code (ceiling fans in master are wired with a lamp cord that runs down the wall and plugs into an outlet via a multi-prong adapter). This home could be so much more charming, comfortable and safe with just a little attention to detail. Property management was responsive although most of the issues were out of their immediate control.

I would stay here again

Most of the house was as expected. We were fully aware of lack of washer and dryer and was not an issue. The house fulfilled our need for the week and served us well. The deck had a broken rusty table on it. We contacted management and they replaced the table within a few hours. Plenty of parking and loved the convenience of the beach. Charcoal grill was available and ready for use and plenty of areas outside to hang swimwear and outdoor rinse off. My biggest two complaints were one the kitchen lacked appropriate pans for cooking, frying pan was rusted and unusable, had to make eggs in a sauce pan. Everything else in the kitchen worked very well. My second complaint is the spiders in the bedrooms, ants at the kitchen window and bugs in the bathroom. It was not a lot, but noticeable like ot just needed a current spraying like any house. We would stay here again if these two items were corrected.

Nice and simple...but cold!

PROS: Great location. Right on beach. Quiet end of island. Updated kitchens and baths. Fairly clean. CONS: I'll rightly admit that most of these are a little nitpicky, but simply FYI for potential renters... - Kitchen has a decent bit of equipment, but no supplies (not even a salt/pepper shaker)...and no hot pads for taking things out of oven. - A number of nails sticking out of the flooring and on the outdoor deck (be careful). - Only gave us a single trash bag for a week - Many of the blinds are broken - Secondary door has no insulation (at least a quarter-inch open gap to the outdoors, and temp, and humidity, and bugs). - Management company not super-responsive. - Bathroom fixtures loose - Small deck only on the morning-sun side of the house. Would have been nice if the deck was beach or afternoon-sun-facing. My biggest issue with the property--which, of course, only matters if you're considering staying there in early Spring or Fall--is the lack of heat. The listing falsely claims "HVAC", but there isn't heat...which naturally doesn't matter most of the year...but if there's a snap that gets down into the 50s or 40s in the evenings, it gets pretty damn cold in there (especially considering the door with open access to the outside). The house was well into the 50s indoors when we woke up in the mornings. Brrrr!! So, overall, great location. Simple. Fairly clean. Would consider staying there again (but perhaps not over Spring Break).

Location is beautiful.The house needs some work. The air was broke.The sink in the bathroom was clogged when we arrived. Went and got drano, after a day is was clogged again.Dishwasher stunk and had slimy standing water. One of the bedroom outlets did not work.Parts of the deck rail falling apart. A section of the deck feels like you could through. Nails popping up. We had a family member step on one. Dirty dishes in the cabinets. Beds were the worst we have ever slept on. Sad because this little cottage and its prime location could really be a gem. Doesn’t look like they really care to keep up with it. Paneling bubbling all throughout on the inside. Definitely a chance of mold and mildew at this house. Messaged the host several times, never heard anything. Once I spoke to VRBO, rental company did call and sent a maintenance man. He couldn’t fix the air. Hammered a few nails popping out and ran the nasty water back through the dishwasher. Dishwasher still smelled after that and did not feel it was sanitary to use after that situation and the smell. Don’t think the dishwasher even works very well as to why all plates and bowls were dirty. Even though the rental agency tried to fix the problems,they are bigger than what maintenance can accomplish in one visit. Would not rent again due to everything. The view was spectacular and the beachy charm is nice. But some big overall issues need to be addressed. Time to invest some in this property
