The quintessential kiwi bach, simple and functional, set in complete privacy on our farm at The Black Barn Lake Tarawera on a stunning site high above all else.

Originally individually used by hunters in the surrounded bush, The Hunting Huts is a grouping of four huts linked by a large outdoor deck. Careful refurbishments have resulted in a unique holiday home that has a special character all its own.

The front huts are the living spaces; kitchen/dining and lounge, each with large stacker doors opening up onto the deck.

The two rear huts are identical in configuration, each are split into a double room and a bunk room with internal access, perfect for one family per hut.

The bathroom adjoins the lounge and has a shower over a bath, a toilet and a double vanity.

The utility room has clothes washer, dryer and laundry tub plus a second toilet.

The heated outdoor shower on the northern deck is a completely open showering experience!

Both double bedrooms enjoy lake views and you'll wake to see the sun rising over Mount Tarawera.

A genuine Stoked hot tub sits under a pohutukawa tree on the front lawn and is a perfect way to relax and enjoy the vista by day and the famous starfilled lake Tarawera sky by night.

Whether it's relaxing and spending time with friends or exploring all that the region has to offer, the lake bach is a great place to base yourself.

Please respect the serenity of this special location - no party's or loud music.

The front lawn space has a "ha-ha", a recessed edge that allows uninterrupted views of the lake and mountain. We advise parental awareness of young children and toddlers.

Keep in mind that these pods were originally hunters huts, so the interior living spaces aren't exactly cavernous! Best described as "bachy"; simple and functional in space and layout but of course really comfortable, being fully insulated and double glazed.

The stainless steel hot tub is a "fill and empty" tub to ensure clean, chemical free bathing. To use simply turn on the hot and cold taps at the tub, it takes about 45 minutes to fill. If the cover is put back on after use, it will retain most of its heat to be reused again over the next 24hrs.
