If any hotel has earned a one-star review, it’s Tahoe Sands Inn in South Lake Tahoe.
Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, and we were told we were being “upgraded” to a premium room. Unfortunately, the upgrade was a tiny 10x10 space where the queen (**Not the King I booked**) bed took up almost the entire room. There was barely room to move.
It was snowing during our stay and the heater didn’t work. I called for assistance multiple times and no one ever came. I ended up relighting the pilot light myself every 30 minutes throughout the night just to keep the room from freezing.
The toilet clogged with only liquids in it and it took four hours for staff to provide a plunger which is dropped off in a bag full of dead cockroaches.
The TV barely worked — even at full volume you could hardly hear it.
To make matters worse, there was a visible blood stain on the bed. There was no comforter, just thin sheets, which made the non-working heater even more uncomfortable. The room only had three extremely flat, uncomfortable pillows.
If this was considered the “premium” room, I can’t imagine what the standard room looks like.
Oh, by the way, check-in is not even on site. You have to walk next-door to the other apartments to check in.
Very disappointing experience overall.
