Historisk Coast Guard Station på Keweenaw Bay, gåafstand til stranden!

  • Kom og bo på "Powerhouse" i den historiske White City, bygget i 1930'erne for at levere elektricitet til fyret, der ligger en kort gåtur ned ad pausevæggen. Powerhouse blev omdannet til en bolig og sidder på en afsondret 4 hektar stor ejendom med 2 andre huse, der ikke vil blive besat under dit ophold.

    Du finder smukke White City Beach og en gratis offentlig båd lancering, kun kun 5 minutters gang fra huset. En hovedattraktion, der er udsigten fra huset, er Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entry Lighthouse. White City er definition af et afslappende miljø med masser af aktiviteter for at holde alle besatte. Træk op en stol på brudvandet og tag i Keweenaw Bay (Lake Superior) udsigt eller tag en fiskestang. Drop i din kajak eller kano i huset og tag en padle i miles af backwaters nord for huset.

    Du kan også hoppe i bilen i en times kørsel til Copper Harbor, hvor du finder smukke udsigter og små butikker for at tilfredsstille dine touristy behov. Copper Harbor er kendt omkring Midtvesten for sin mountainbike med udlejning cykler til rådighed. Great location. Central to the entire peninsula. Right on water with great sunsets. Bald eagle flew from pine next to the cottage.

Our stay at the power station was incomparable. It is such a beautiful setting that no matter what is going on you can sit down with your thoughts and be peaceful. Kristen, our host, was gracious, helpful, and enthusiastic to see to it our stay was as comfortable as possible. It is especially important to us that we were able to bring our dog. Thank you for being a pet friendly location. We would and will go back again and we wholeheartedly recommend this oasis to anyone. We have already recommended to friends and family.

The Power Station property is a real gem! Right on the water, so you can relax and enjoy the boats, the sunsets, and the quiet. The walk to the wonderful sandy beach is about 200 yards. The property is comfortable, very clean, and the kitchen is well stocked with cooking, baking, and other prep implements ( Ninja blender, toaster, coffeemaker, coffee grinder,…). The major appliances are new and work well. This was the most relaxed, pleasant stay we have enjoyed in several years. We travel with a dog and this was ideal in all ways.

What a cool place- we had a lovely stay watching the bald eagles and humming birds. Good fishing right off the dock, and the canoes were a huge perk. The house itself is beautiful, with classic rustic touches and great amenities. Loved the DVD collection. We’re already thinking about when we can get back here!

Cute place to stay

My family (including our dogs) had a lovely time staying here. Although I only got a single bite all week, it was very peaceful and the beach was a short walk away. The house was clean and had everything we could want for amenities. Overall it was an excellent experience.

Perfectly Peaceful

This rental is located in an absolutely beautiful area. Everything was provided for a quiet escape. The owners were very helpful and responded quickly to every question. We enjoyed exploring the beach and surrounding area as well as watching Bald Eagles and numerous other wildlife. We highly recommend this rental and this beautiful area of Michigan!

Truly the perfect week. This is such a comfortable place with amazing water and sky views. Our only complaint was that our week went by too quickly. Next time we will try and stay longer!

Fantastic property! The waterfront location with wharf and dock, walking distance to the beach and lighthouse, were just superb. The house was very clean and comfortable and the kitchen well-stocked. Kristin is super responsive and kind. I can not think of a thing I would change other than the mosquitos which are beyond anyone's control.

Best property I’ve stayed at

If you love the water it does not get any better than this property. We enjoyed the house, the old boardwalk, the beach and the fishing so much. We will definitely be back next year. My son and I caught giant smallmouth bass right off the dock. The fishing was so good it made it difficult to want to do anything else. I really enjoyed learning about the history of this place, very cool.

Experiencing History

Very comfortable, cozy stay in a historical house. So fun to walk to the lighthouse and the beach. Our son was able to drive over from Houghton to visit in less than 40 minutes. We had a nice dinner at the restaurant in Dreamland. Our daughter and golden retriever enjoyed the little swimming area and the beach. We took the canoes out on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed exploring the little islands in the Portage- complete with shipwrecks.

Great Place to Stay

Communication was excellent. Picture perfect place for a relaxing summer vacation. Fishing off the dock; quick, private walk to the beach and lighthouse. Fully stocked with everything you need for cooking and cleaning, you only need to provide the food. Single bathroom was not an issue for our family of 6, including 3 teenage girls.

Wonderful

We stayed with our family of 6. 2 adults and 4 kids ages 6-12. There was plenty of room for everyone. We absolutely loved the historic nature of the rental. It was so fun that our front sidewalk (pier) led straight to the lighthouse and beach down the way. Beautiful sunsets each night, this place felt like a home away from home.

Quiet and beautiful

Very cute house with water access for canoes or kayaks into a channel that quickly leads to Lake Superior. Well stocked with kitchen needs (cleaning supplies, pots/pans, plastic bags and foil). Short walk down the road or along the breaker wall to a sandy beach of Lake Superior. Everyone enjoyed the stay and wish we could have stayed longer. 20 - 30 minute drive away from nearest town but worth it.

Great set up for our dog

This property worked out so well for our dog which made it great for us. The beach was a short walk away so our dog could swim with us multiple times a day. We could not watch television programs but it worked out. We kept busy, watched a few DVDs and brought a play station. Very peaceful.

Paradise.

My second time staying at the former Coast Guard Station. My first time was totally wonderful. It was everything I'd hoped for. The location could not be improved in any way and all the parts of the stay made it a success. My second time there was like coming home. The view, the water, the sky, the wildlife all brought smiles to my face each day I opened the door to look at the view. I just cannot explain to anyone considering a stay there how special the house is. In a nutshell - I wish it were mine so I could be there forever.

Loved it!

This was our 3rd year staying at this property. We have stayed for a week each time. We love the location and the wonderful views! There is a place to fish off the breakwall, a shallow area for little kids swimming and the ability to walk from the property to the lighthouse. So much fun! The only negative was the owner has asked to stay at the property (in a separate house) every year for the last weekend we are there. Its been fine but def takes away the feeling of privacy. But overall a wonderful place to stay with beautiful views of boats going by and peaceful views of the water! Would def stay again!

Great Stay in White City

This property is a gem! It was about 0.5 miles to the White City Beach, which was fabulous and never crowded! Several times we had the whole place to our selves!. The Powerhouse was well stocked with amenities. We were able to cook or grill out as needed. (a gas grill and charcoal grill were available) There was plenty of space to spread out and the full-size washer and dryer was a bonus. The was no internet or cable, but we didn't notice being unplugged for the week. :) Stargazing was amazing! This is a great place to relax and recharge! Thank you for a great stay.

Awesome Stay

Property was exactly as described. A little off the grid (that we desired) but within easy driving to anything we wanted or needed. Kristin's communication was great! Complete and accurate. Very helpful tips. Little things like being 30 minutes from grocery store helped us plan accordingly. We stopped on the way in and picked up what we needed for that evening and next morning. Followed recommendation on some of the places to dine and all were great experiences. Being right on the water, able to watch boats go up and down the waterway, walking distance to the beach (that the dogs absolutely loved) and the lighthouse really made it difficult to want to go out anywhere else. Accommodations were clean, organized, comfortable and everything we needed was there. Even had an opportunity to take the available canoe out for a little paddle around the bay. We had two separate visits from an Eagle one day, a third visit another day, saw an otter near the dock, and even got a little bit of experience with seeing the northern lights. If you like quiet, reasonable isolation away from the tourist, yet reasonably close to many attractions, this is the place!

We highly recommend the power house, a beautiful and unique historic property, right on the waterway where the end of the Portage River meets Keweenaw Bay. There are three buildings, all owned by the same family, but only the power house is currently used and available to rent. The other two are being renovated. This building once supplied power (via cable) to a nearby lighthouse, and it has been extensively renovated. It has a very large comfortable, well-furnished and equipped living/dining/kitchen area as well as a separate den. There are two bedrooms, one with king bed and twin bunks, the other with a queen bed, and a rather small but adequate bathroom with shower. There is a TV with no cable but you can stream programs with your own subscriptions. Cell service worked well there. The property is quite private and very quiet. We are not beachgoers but there is a nearby beach. The water views from the property are beautiful and you can watch the occasional boat and float plane go by. There is outside seating to enjoy it all. The place has a very well-equipped kitchen and a nice large dining table, but if you don't want to cook, Dreamland restaurant is 10 minutes or so up the road, and they have good food and drink. Otherwise, stock up before arriving as it's 20 minutes or more to the closest store. Excellent directions were given to access the property and get the key. Kristin, the owner, is not on-site but responds very quickly to phone calls and texts.
