It was a wonderful value for a first class hotel. The keycards were a problem for the entire 3 days. But the politeness of the staff made up for the card problems. Breakfast was very tasty, but the chai was not good at all. Fix the keycards and chai and it would be the best hotel in Kolkata!

Had a horrible experience at ITC Sonar Bangla, stayed for one night and had booked a room with city view, they gave a room with a view of a brick wall on literally the ground floor. When I called the front desk they kept transferring my call and telling me someone will come to my door to chnage to room, after 5 calls to the front desk and the duty manager and spending almost 2 hours trying to get the room I booked in the first place they stopped responding to my calls and made me stay in a dirty and smelly room. Never expected to get something more just what I booked for. I expected at least the manager to call and let me know that it would not be possible. They didn’t even have the courtesy to do that. This is the state of ITC hospitality

The property has freely roaming lizards. Staff was unapologetic and brushed it as a pushy customer case. Will be posting the picture of lizards on the door of my room. If there are lizards near the rooms where there is supposedly nothing to feed on for the lizards, one can only imagine he hygiene in their food production areas.

I reached hotel at around 4:15 pm for check in but I was told that room will take another 15 minutes to be sanitized/cleaned. On my insistence that I am getting late for meetings and this is normal check in time and not early check in, I was allocated the room. However, the staff sitting at check in counter was so arrogant that she didn’t even help or asked concierge to help me with my luggage. I carried 2 heavy bags to my room (which was a long walk) and none of the staff watching me carrying those 2 bags came forward for help !! So in summary, some of the staff I dealt with were very arrogant.

ITC Sonar is a very old property, most of facilities like swimming, gym, spa etc are under renovation. However, we got temporary access to connected ITC Royal Bengal building to access such facilities The lily pond appears too dirty too. Eden Restaurant was always full during breakfast no space to seat. Staffs are polite and willing to help, food was also nice. System management is poor, I paid via my debit card while I checked in. This was not showing to the executive at reception and he was asking me to make another payment. Annoying! How come a paid status for my hotel accommodation wouldn’t reflect to them in their system , I paid all my dining and other expenses in cash at the spot. They were insisting for the receipt I got at the time I checked in or else pay again. What a joke!!
