The coast can be especially rewarding in winter, when whale watching becomes part of an ordinary beach walk. Getting Around:

Kahului Airport is about 40 to 45 minutes away along Maui's scenic west-side coastline. A rental car is recommended for reaching beaches, shopping, and dining spread along the coast. Kahana, Napili, Ka'anapali, and West Maui restaurants are a short drive away, while parking is typically available in nearby lots. This is an easy base for exploring Maui's west side at your own pace.
