I'll start with the positives: the location of this rental is perfect for accessing all things in Hillsdale. The concept of a unit with a small kitchen, bedroom, and bath is lovely. We appreciated the water in the fridge and the options of coffee and a few snack bars. But that is where it ends. The building is very, very, very old. Several "updates" have left multiple light switches (one that does not work), a bathroom that is very awkward (shower has a slanted ceiling that anyone over 5'8"will bump the ceiling and a toilet that is 12 inches away from the wall in front of it), a drop ceiling that is water stained and bowing, and a floor that slants distinctly toward the bathroom side of the unit. In addition to structural issues, the amenities fall far short of standard expectations: the bed is horrible (frame wood-blocked to the head board, mattress that is in desperate need of replacement, sheets with a large tear in it), the vents are covered in dust, one set of blinds do not open (totally broken), lightbulbs burned out, a lamp with no where to plug it in, another lamp with the shade resting directly on the lightbulb, threadbare towels... I could go on. My husband also had issue with the street noise and he swears he heard critters in the ceiling, which I cannot confirm, but did not leave a cozy feeling for us. In addition, the usual rate was doubled simply because it was Parent's Weekend at the college. I did not receive any check-in information and had to call the owner after 4 pm to gain access to the unit. I feel bad leaving such a negative review, but any potential renter needs to know what they are signing up for with this rental.
