Vintage Pet-Friendly Family Cabin and Bunkhouse in the Atlanta State Forest

  • Pine Oaks Lodge is a 1950's era cabin right on the edge of The Atlanta State Forest, thousands and thousands of acres of trees, lakes, wildlife, and trails. A major trailhead is at the end of the lane, walking distance from the front door. Bring your recreational vehicles or just bike or hike your way around the woods. There are 50+ lakes in Montmorency County which provide opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing. For you birdwatchers, the Kirkland Warbler travels all the way from the Caribbean to nest in the Jack Pines that are within walking distance from our lodge. This is night sky country, so if you are lucky enough to have a clear night, you can enjoy amazing views free from light pollution. Pine Oaks Lodge has a secluded feel, but is just 3 miles from the Village of Hillman centrally located for short and longer day trips to a multitude of state and national forests and parks, as well as other outdoor sports, activities and tourist destinations.

The hosts were absolutely phenomenal! Could not ask for better experience with them. The only concern we had was the grass was extremely tall. Cabin was extremely cute and decorated great. Loved it. Would stay here again!!

This was my second time staying here this year. Hopefully a couple more in the not too distant future.For the ORV folks it’s only about 400 yards down the road to the trail head. Plenty of room to park a trailer and unload at and ride from the cabin.And there’s a nice fire pit out back.

Perfect group getaway

Amazing for the whole family more than enough space inside and out, trails all over to walk very pet friendly highly recommend staying we will be going back for a hunting trip this fall!

Great spot to get away. If you’re about 6 foot be careful though, had to spend the trip dogging the beams, but couldn’t have asked for a better place to rest my head at night.

We were in the area for a family reunion. Pine Oaks gave us a quiet retreat in the woods to relax and unwind after the festivities. The place is comfortable and well stocked. The owners, James and Alisa, were very good communicators and left plenty of information about local attractions

Away from the hustle and bustle of life. Perfect for our long weekend with our dogs. Close enough for us to go explore and attend wedding in Alpena. Far enough to have our quiet time together.

Falls we visited about 30 to 40 minutes away.

Great getaway

It was great getting away from technology for a week. Kids enjoyed the hunters cabin. Our service dogs even enjoyed being off duty for a week.

Very Cozy, plenty of essentials. Towels, sheets, blankets, all dishes, etc. James and Alisa respond quickly. The area is beautiful. The Hunters Cabin was awesome to have quiet times away from the rest of the group. Being in the woods is so peaceful.THANK YOU!

Great cabin

The cabin had lot's of nice touches and fun stuff to look at. It was a quite and relaxing place to come back to after a day of fishing. The fire pit area was perfect for hanging out and making smores. The cabin is close to a lot of great outdoorsy stuff. All in all, we had a great mini-vacation and will consider staying there again next time we head up to Fletcher's for fishing.

Great communication

The owner was very prompt on communication. It was nice to stay at a home that had multiple options for sleeping and a shower that had a shower head that could fully rinse your body.Fully equipped with kitchen and eating utensils. We like the games they offered too.

The cabin looked beautiful in pictures and in description, however, in person, some things stood out as difficult to tolerate: moldy bathroom that smelled strongly of urine. There was a large area rug on the floor in front of the shower, and when it got damp, the smell became unbearable. The water knobs for the shower barely turned, the shower was very small and dirty. The toilet itself was very low to the ground and in a cramped space which made it difficult to sit on. The base of the toilet was leaky. I found it easier and more hygiene to do a very simple wipe down in the kitchen, rather than shower in the bathroom. The bedrooms were horribly dusty, most of the windows couldn't open--- there was no access to an open screen and there were dead bugs and dirt caked in the windows. We had to run the air conditioning the entire time. There were lots of carpenter ants crawling all over which got stuck to the bottoms of our feet and tracked into the beds. The mold flared up me and the kids' allergies, and we were relieved to be there only 2 nights. There were pretty knick knacks and interesting books to read. We were gifted a free magnet. The value for the price was poor.

We came to ride trails. Trail to Atlanta was open, Hilman trail was close half way there. We had a great time and weather. The cabin was conveniently located near the Atlanta south trailhead. The cabin was ok, the beams are low so if youre tall watch your head.

Thanksgiving/Hunting Get-A-Way!

This cabin was the perfect cabin for my family. We spent thanksgiving there which the kitchen was fully supplied with cooking accessories to cook the meal. The living room was very spacious for all of us to hang out. The cabin is surrounded by state land , so we did not have to go far. It was perfect for what we needed it for and very affordable.

This was overall a great place to stay. We really enjoyed that there was no television. It caused us to take time to read and just talk. Unfortunately it was raining, so no camp fire, but there was a beautiful area for one. I would recommend and would use this location again.

My friend and I stayed at this lovely cabin for 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The cabin was perfect for the two of us. Cozy, artistic touches, “rustic” in just the right way with the modern conveniences we needed. Had 1-2 bars with Verizon. Enough to do what we needed to do on our phones. Location was great. Nice gift basket of goodies. 10/10 for us. My husband who is 6’ 3” would have been cramped with lower ceiling beams and smallish bathroom fixtures etc. just a heads up on that. But my girlfriend and I thought it was the best!

Cozy cabin

Cozy cabin in a quiet area. There are neighbors but very quiet ones, never saw anyone else. Loved that there was limited cell service as my kids actually played games in the evening with us. And great that the owner left a stack of games as I didn’t think to pack any. Teenagers enjoyed having their own space in the hunters cabin. Definitely a huge step up from the tent camping we usually do.

Quiet unplugged relaxing weekend…

My brother and I stayed here for the weekend as a base camp for our trout fishing and mushroom picking trip.. It was very nice and relaxing.. no Wi-Fi but none needed. We have Verizon service and had no problems with reception.. The cabin is plenty big enough for 6-8 people.. The hunters cabin out back is pretty neat also.. a nice studio style room.. nice quiet area.. it was a bit warm for a bon fire but it looked like a nice area to sit and enjoy one.. The hosts were very responsive to any questions I had.. plenary of linens.. a beautiful stone fireplace.. now converted to gas log.. rustic beams.. 2 bedrooms with comfortable beds.. lots of windows and a A/C unit for the hot summer days.
