Tucked within the historic heart of Funchal, Villa Diniz is a 19th-century manor house offering rare serenity in the city’s most iconic setting. Once the residence of celebrated Portuguese writer Júlio Dinis, who completed his final novel Os Fidalgos da Casa Mourisca here, the villa reflects the quiet grandeur of Madeira’s cultural heritage.

Lovingly restored in 2001, its interiors reveal an elegant blend of classic eclecticism: tropical colonial character, Belle Époque refinement and Oriental touches, all framed by a transitional luxe heritage aesthetic. More than a stay, Villa Diniz is a connection to the island’s literary and architectural legacy.

Accommodating up to six guests, the villa includes three distinct bedrooms: a spacious master suite with king-size bed, bathtub and shower, a second king bedroom facing the historic cityscape, and a twin en suite ideal for younger guests or discreet hosting. A full bathroom is located in the corridor, along with a guest toilet by the garden patio.

Its most distinctive feature is the large, private tropical garden, a hidden oasis in the capital. Surrounded by mature foliage and quiet elegance, the space includes a rare, centuries-old wood-fired oven, beautifully preserved, and a tranquil area for al fresco dining.

Inside, each bedroom is climate-controlled, and the kitchen is fully equipped for seamless daily living. For added convenience, secure parking can be arranged, a rare luxury in such a central setting. Premium services, including private chef experiences, tailored island tours and transfers, are available upon request.

A statue of Júlio Dinis stands just beyond the entrance, and a rare original edition of his last novel is displayed within. Quiet tributes to a life and work that shaped Portuguese literature.

4. Quiet Hours
Please keep noise to a minimum between 22:00 and 08:00, out of respect for the surrounding environment.

5. Check-In & Check-Out
Kindly respect the scheduled check-in and check-out times to help ensure a seamless arrival and departure experience. Check-ins are welcomed until 22:00. For arrivals after this time, a €32 supplement for night-time coordination applies. This can be settled via the online check-in form or, if not completed in advance, on arrival.

6. Neighbour Awareness
Please remain mindful of the local community throughout your stay.

7. Furnishings and Amenities
All furnishings and amenities are provided for your enjoyment throughout the stay. Kindly ensure that no items are removed from the property.

8. Additional Guests or Visitors
Only guests included in the reservation are allowed on the premises.

9. Insects & Wildlife
This property is located on Madeira Island, known for its lush nature and subtropical climate. Depending on the season, occasional sightings of insects or small wildlife may occur. While regular pest control is in place, a fully insect-free environment cannot be guaranteed. We recommend keeping windows closed, storing food securely, and managing waste appropriately to help maintain comfort.

10. Tourist Tax
As part of local requirements, a tourist tax of €2 per person per night (up to 7 nights, for guests aged 13 and above) will be collected during check-in via the registration form. This contribution is forwarded directly to the municipality.
