The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The bed was not, in fact, a super king but rather two single beds pushed together which were different heights, making the bed somewhat awkward to share. The spa has limited facilities and disinterested staff who did not greet us, despite there being three of them on the desk, they simply informed us we needed to sign in after we had wandered around for a few minutes trying to get our bearings. Ample parking on gravel areas dotted around the venue, however limited lighting and random outbuildings made the area seem less than desirable. When the fire alarm activated at 23:30, no staff appeared to direct guests out of the building which could be understood in a larger hotel, however there were only two floors and at no point was a register taken to ensure guests were safely outside, no apology was issued for the late hour and neither was any reassurance given, simply one member of staff in a high vis jacket who appeared to tell a few guests it was safe to return to the building and this message was then dispersed amongst the other guests as there were no staff in sight. In the morning, check out was extremely efficient, as I was simply asked my room number and neither asked for feedback on my stay, not wished a pleasant onward journey. Again, no apology provided for the disturbance the previous night. Overall, very disappointed.

Weekend trip
Nice hotel and spa, a bit weird having to walk outside from the spa to get back to the hotel room. friendly staff and good service. Food and drinks were very overpriced which spoiled it. £28 for avocado on toast breakfast I would expect to pay at the Savoy! Overall a nice trip but the catering costs spoiled it. I would recommend eating elsewhere

Great..but bar and restaurant expensive
Lovely hotel, great staff, reasonable price to stay, however the bar and restaurant prices were very excessive. I guess its down to being a captive audience and greed.

The property is in a very poor state. The furniture is very tired. I have seen sparks come from my electric radiator, there are nails in the walls hanging out. My shower had no hot water. The wifi is terrible and should not be considered to be available. The entire hotel smells of damp. I would not stay at the hotel again.

Not the best stay
Hotel nice, but rooms very tired, King Size bed was two singles pushed together with the join being very noticeable and very unformattable along with being very soft and uncomfortable mattresses. Room was in need of decoration , wasn't very clean with marks on the walls and even a peanut on the corner of the floor in the bathroom! Shower was very poor quality with very little pressure. Rooms and bathroom need modernising. Breakfast was OK, but was shocked that they could charge £24 for a cooked breakfast each and still charge a supplement for some items! Wasn't our best stay in a hotel and can think of better cheaper chain hotels with more comfortable rooms. Sorry but just our opinion but not worth what we paid for it very disapointed and glad it was only for one night

Good and bad!
We stayed for 1 night with our granddaughter whilst visiting Cheshire. The room was pleasant. Our bed was comfortable but the sofa bed our granddaughter was on had a very thin mattress meaning she didn't sleep very well We picked this hotel as as it had a pool and luckily we arrived early as we didn't realise children were not allowed in the pool after 6pm. My wife visited the spa and had a facial but unfortunately this is were the Mcdonald part of the name kicked in as she felt she was getting the fast food version of a treatment from someone who was clearly ready to go home! A saving grace for us was the breakfast. It did take a while to arrive but it was well worth the wait. Really good quality ingredients, everything cooked perfectly, and very friendly efficient waiting staff. A definite 5* for breakfast!

Difficult to order drinks at the bar as it was often unmanned and then when someone did turn up it was over £7 for a pint of lager. Breakfast staff were not very helpful. Just pointed towards a table with no explanation of how breakfast worked. Left at the table on my own.. went to find waitress to ask if I could order some food.. waited another few minutes for the chef to then come and take my order. Very poor customer service.

Friendly hotel
As a family with a disabled child we had a lovely stay in Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and check in was smooth. The family room was nice and spacious, however the addition of a wheelchair accessible family room would be a bonus. The breakfast was very good with a good selection of hot and cold options. Whilst we didn't use the spa, it looked very clean and luxurious. The pool was very nice as well as the changing rooms, with the addition of complimentary towels. Unfortunately, our son couldn't use the pool as there was no hoist. Our only suggestions would be that the hotel needs some refurbishment and updating, and to consider more accessibility for disabled persons, with the addition of more disabled parking spaces. However, overall, we had a good stay.

Had a Very Enjoyable Stay here for a Family Wedding . All Staff were lovely and very helpful, especially the Reception Staff who Made us Very Welcome from the moment we arrived. Our Room was lovely, if not a little in need of a bit of TLC, but never the less very spacious, spotlessly clean with a beautiful view of the Garden and Very Comfy Beds! . Our Weekend was finished off by a very tasty Breakfast which we had in the restaurant and included everything you would require, continental and waiter served. Our rate through Hotels. com was excellent and in my opinion very good value for Money.

In need of TLC, staff lovely, drinks extortionate!
Hotel is looking a bit run down and in need of some TLC. Staff were friendly and helpful. The prices of the drinks were extortionate, I wouldn’t pay that for a 5 star hotel. Nearly £8 for a pint and nearing £40 for a bottle of wine! It’s a shame as they are doing themselves out of business.

True Assessment
The reason for staying is our son had his wedding reception there and we booked 14 rooms, the rooms were dated and we all believe that the hotel would benefit from a refurbishment for Macdonald to maintain their excellent reputation. In our room (240) the occasional chair was that worn there is a hole in the fabric.
