"This is a 100-year-old historic landmark hotel that is much as it was when it was built. They have added modern card-access door locks and televisions. But they have not added air conditioning, fans, or in-room bathrooms. Individual rooms don't have bathrooms. You have to use a shared restroom down the hall.
We asked if we could be moved to a room that had a bathroom, and the person charged us a lot more money and then assigned us a new room. When we got to that one, indeed there was a bathroom...
