"Beautiful rainforest property with good birding opportunity, birds song, cicadas, and frogs, but "touristy", so the natural vibe gets ruined. It seems they cater to tour groups, so not very private or queit. Have to pay for 3 meals a day but on their schedule that's too late for serious birding and not as healthy as I'd prefer. I travel solo and do not enjoy sitting by myself or wasting time I could be out finding birds sitting in a restaurant. I go ut birding before daybreak so, lunch as late...
"Our stay at Lapa Rios was unforgettable from the moment we arrived. Staff were waiting for us as we got off the ferry in Puerto Jiménez, and after a scenic drive to the lodge, we were welcomed with tropical drinks and warm, personal greetings. "Perfect for a relaxing retreat with or without the yoga and a good place for the activities in the Oso/Corcovado area. Jen and Stuart’s hospitality is exceptional - everything you need, when you need it, with no fuss, and very well priced (eg $10 for a delicious lunch). Breakfast is delicious. Stuart’s cocktails are great. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing i would have done differently is hiring bikes in town for greater flexibility. "

"Really lovely place with a great pool that really anchors the entire resort. Our room was clean and comfortable though there was a weird beeping sound that was almost constant in our building through out our trip and there were at least 3 brief power outages during our visit. "

The staff are very friendly and helped us with any questions we had about the tourist attractions. A small jungle surrounds the hotel where you can see monkeys and parrots. You can follow a small trail within the hotel area. The kitchen is great to be able to make your own food. It is mostly backpackers coming by and staying for a couple of days. "This resort provides an authentic "forest" experience while at the same time making sure all one's needs are taken care of. Dining is surprisingly good (my husband is a gourmet chef so he should know) as is the service! We couldn't ask for more but got it thanks to the friendliness of the owners. They are ever present and offer great advice (as well as conversation) for a fulfilling experience.
