We arrived a week after the hotel’s reopening and the renovated front entrance, sitting area, bar, and dining space were beautifully updated. Unfortunately, the rooms, hallways, and elevator were a sharp contrast and still in need of significant work. While we understand rooms in Europe tend to be smaller, most of the light switches didn’t work, the hallway carpets were mismatched, and years of wear and tear were evident.
The front desk staff could benefit from proper customer service training. They weren’t particularly welcoming and at times came across as rude, which set a poor first impression.
On a positive note, the food was tasty with a good range of menu options. However, the wait staff, though mostly friendly, seemed underprepared for the relaunch. They were unfamiliar with the iPads used for ordering, didn’t check in during dinner, and we had to repeatedly ask for water, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy.
The hotel has real charm, but Honeycomb Houses clearly has some work to do to bring the full experience up to the level of the renovated common spaces.
