We were in town for the Ford Nationals. So much history in this home! Luxurious accommodations! The hosts were incredible and very flexible with our time frame. We had to be out early each morning and she made our breakfast to go. My husband and I will definitely be back next year! Thank you Rkia for your investment in this home. The passion you and your husband have for it shows.

Very cool mansion with eclectic decor. Bed was comfy! Great location to visit our daughter at Dickinson. Owners were kind and thoughtful during our stay. Full breakfast was served. Learned a little Carlisle history during our stay!

Make sure your air conditioner works
Make sure that the air conditioning works in your room. Ours didn’t and we had a sleepless night. We could have been moved to another room, but that was not offered to us even though one was available.

Customer service was excellent. Owner of this property was an excellent host, very friendly. Property has history and is in the middle of a park. Unique compared to going to a typical hotel.

The staff was especially accommodating. I requested coffee @ 5 a.m. since I am an early riser. It was delivered promptly and it was of high quality. Tea in my room was served upon my return. Breakfasts were excellent. I stayed by myself and it was exactly the respite I needed.

This is really a Mansion. Good space and lots of space in the yard to walk around. Lots of history there too. Breakfast was sumptuous. I will recommend this place to people and will love to stay here for a longer period not just 1 night.

A treasure in Carlisle
Beautiful and unique, this space is a destination in its own right. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. You can expect a beautifully furnished room (with extra-thoughtful bedding and amenities) plus a simply spectacular breakfast in the morning.

The hosts were most gracious and attentive and our suite was very comfortable. The breakfast was well presented and delicious. It was a very comfortable stay.

I stayed at the Thornwald Mansion for a few days while on a business trip in Carlisle. The owner was so warm and personable, and the property was gorgeous. I am a vegan, and the owner was so kind in making me breakfast each morning. She also was so knowledgeable about the history of the property and town which I am always very interested in. Why stay at a chain hotel, when you can have a unique, pampered experience, at a super affordable rate?? This property is perfect for special occasions, but accessible for business trips, and leisure travel as well. The property is slightly tucked away, but also right downtown, with easy access to restaurants, stores, and anything else you may need. Definitely stay at the Thornwald Mansion!

Great Hostess in Carlisle!
We were visiting Carlisle for a parents' weekend at Dickinson College. Thornwald has an interesting history in Carlisle and it is always fun to stay somewhere unique. Rkia, one of the owners, is probably one of the sweetest, loveliest people we have met.

Enjoyable stay in Carlisle
Very comfortable and large room (Michaelangelo). A/C much appreciated in warm, humid weather. Beautifully restored mansion in quiet, park setting. Furnished with antiques. Modern bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Delightful owners. Close to Carlisle. Would stay here again if I return to Carlisle.

Exquisite historic Mansion that set the bar high
My husband and I have stayed at Thornwald Mansion and we had an amazing and memorable stay. Beautifully decorated with antiques, well maintained and period-perfect venue, comfortable accommodations, high-end amenities, scrumptious homemade breakfasts and friendly innkeeper, gracious hospitality and so much more!! We enjoyed the fabulous high-end beds with sumptuous bedding, towels and designer product toiletries. Those attributes are coupled with a delightful setting in a park. This historic mansion which has been restored to all its splendor and charm, made our stay very enjoyable. We enjoyed all accommodations that this place has to offer. We will definitely be back to this jewel of a place. Thank you, innkeeper, so much for bringing this historic landmark to life!! :-)

Very disappointing
Very disappointing! I chose this hotel based on the information and reviews in Expedia but the information was wrong and . I wanted to have a room with a bathtub and I chose one based on Expedia information. When I checked in, the room I booked did not have a bathtub even though it says it has in Expedia. I had to upgrade to get a room with a bathtub by paying more. Ridiculously, hot water shuts down after one bath! The information in Expedia was wrong or faked. It doesn’t have amenities that a normal hotel does. No in-house phone, no body lotions, no coffee or tea available in the room, no closets, no employees to assist our luggages, only three towels. Bed side lights don’t work. Free internet in the room but was very slow. You cannot walk out from your room at night, being prohibited by a security system. The basic room was too small. After the disappointment at night, I expected an alleviation by a nice breakfast as it was mentioned in one of the reviews of Expedia but it never happened. It was prepared from canned orange juice and frozen foods bought from Walmart, I suspect. The quality of coffee and selection of tea were poor.

You reserved a room not a suite. Also, the pictures online show the bathroom with showers in rooms and Bathtubs for the suites. You arrived late in the evening and I tried to accommodate you by upgrading your room to a suite. Then you start looking for all items that are not listed on our website such where are the slippers and bubble bath. All bathrooms are equipped with Shampoo, Body Lotion and Conditioner and hair dryers. I personally offered to help you with your luggage and anything you need. There was a plenty of hot water in your room and I asked the next day if you needed anything but you did not mention any problem with the room. The rooms/suites all have 2 set of spa Towels (2 big towels, 2 hand towels and 2 washcloths). If you needed more, all what you had to do is to ask but you did not. No hotel can offer you more than 2 sets for 2 persons occupancy. If you need more you have to ask. Coffee is the best that everyone liked and box of selected tea was offered to you in the morning. If you like a strong coffee all what you had to do is to ask and we will prepare it for you. This is a bed and breakfast; everyone comes to the breakfast room to have a big breakfast freshly prepared. The orange juice did not come from a can! The food did not come from Walmart! If you did not like it, why did you eat all of it? And when I asked you how was your breakfast you said good. You are angry just because you were charged for the upgrade. I offered to refund the upgrade but you declined. Very unfair!

Elegant B&B in Park
Old mansion beautifully refurbished by owner. One breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, egg, turkey bacon, homemade savory pastry, superb homemade croissants, and of course juice and coffee. Bathroom has rain shower and water jets. Suites also have full bath.

Great Time and Fun
The stay was great. The owner was one of the nicest people I've met in a long time. She was very helpful, courteous, and friendly. She greeted us like we were family. It was a delight to meet the other people staying at the mansion who were going to be attending the corvette show at the fair grounds like us. We shared experiences which were fun and interesting.

Our stay was not at all what we expected. We knew it was a bed and breakfast in an old mansion but thought there would be more creature comforts and less security. Upon arrival there was one gate open but the sign read no trespassing. Went in anyway. Thankfully because it was the right place. The front door was locked but the housekeeper finally answered. Brought us to our room and eventually showed up with a $20 Walmart air mattress for my son. My son attempted to turn on a lamp and she freaked and told him not to touch ANYTHING because everything is an antique. We set up the air mattress while she moved everything within 10 feet of my son. We were then instructed that at 11 PM the security system would be set so I figured I couldn't leave the building. This was not the case. We couldn't leave our room because we would set off the motion detectors in the hallway. Wow. Were we in prison? There was no TV in the room. She said there was wifi but that it doesn't work in the rooms because of the thick walls. We would have to use it in the hallway but not after 11 when the security system was armed. There was no shower in the room. Just a bath tub. Description read room sleeps 4. I understood the room had one king bed and there would be a $50 charge for each additional person. Had my 10 yr old son with me. $50 for a third person??? To sleep on a cheap air mattress? Not only that but there was barely enough hot water for 2 people so I took an ice cold bath. Didn't pay the $50.
