Dear Sofia, Thank you for your review of our guesthouse. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you feel. As the owner, I would like to address your issues. I am very sad you did not enjoy your stay and I apologise for this. Firstly I'm glad you found our manager, Lareena, nice. It is important to all our staff that our guests enjoy their stay. I'm also happy you enjoyed the views from our verandahs. I am surprised by your comments re parts of the balcony being faulty. We have just renewed our complete southern street-facing wall and our outdoor staircase. The staircase is brand new but is still to be painted. Maybe you mistook this as being old? Our verandah itself is in perfect condition. We are not a hostel. This premises has been, in the past, run as a YHA (actually the top rated YHA in Australia). We left YHA in December, 2020. We are now a budget guesthouse. We are amongst the cheapest accommodation option for the whole Coffs Coast. Our star rating is NOT rated by us but is rated by Expedia from other guest reviews. We are definitely not claiming to be something we are not. At the time of your booking, you booked our cheapest room. It is advertised as a small, budget, street-facing room with shared facilities and it is this. At the time of your booking you could have opted to pay $20 extra and be on the top verandah with a view but you still chose our cheapest option. I'm sad you found our place dirty and bed linen smelly. All laundry is done by our managers under strict health guidelines. We are also very particular about our cleaning. I'm sorry someone vomited outside your room in the street. We have no control over what happens outside our premises. As to feeling unsafe, your room had security grill on the windows (as do all our street-facing rooms). I'm sorry you still felt unsafe with this in place. We tell all guests that they must wear masks in our indoor areas. We also have signs for this. If staff are not in the kitchen it is hard for us to have control over what other guests do when we are not there. Again I would like to say how sorry I am you did not enjoy your stay.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review us. I wish this review was not anonymous so I could respond to you personally. Firstly we are definitely not a hostel. We do not have dormitories but offer 9 family/double rooms. I am very sad you were unhappy with this type of room. Due to the communal nature of our accommodation, our place does have the sounds of people enjoying their holidays. However we have a strict 9.30pm quiet time in the evenings. We take great care to provide the best stay for all guests. Your stay was booked for peak season and our slightly higher price reflects this holiday rate. All our rooms very clearly state online whether the room has a shared bathroom. It is very hard to find, in our region, an en-suite room during peak times for $100 but I'm still sorry you found the room over-priced. Our rate includes many things that other similar priced hotels do not such as free wi-fi, communal commercial kitchen, games, library, decks and verandahs. Once again thank you for your feedback. I wish you a happy holiday.

Hi Venera, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your review helps us be the best guesthouse that we can be. At our guesthouse we care greatly for our environment. This is why we do not have air-conditioning. Each room is fan cooled. We also place extra fans in the rooms in summer I have now checked that all fans are clean. Thank you for letting me know. I'm sorry you found your room smelly. All our rooms have plentry of windows and French doors to let in the fresh air. I'm so sorry you were unhappy with your stay and I have addressed you compaints. Dear Anonymous Guest, Thank you so much for staying with us at the Belfry Guesthouse YHA. We are so happy you enjoyed our location and special view. Thank you for taking the time to review us. We appreciate your feedback. Our guesthouse prides itself on being a "green" hostel and therefore we have no airconditioning. This is clearly marked on all our booking platforms. We do however have 2 fans in each room to aid in cooling. The shared bathroom is also very clearly marked on the booking platforms and is located close to your room. We do tell all our guests, upon arrival, to photograph the front gate code to help in remembering the code. The locked front gate keep our guesthouse safe, especially at night.
