Huset mangler vedligehold. Der er snavset, mørkt og uhyggeligt. Køkkenet var snavset. Kaffekolben på kaffemaskinen var beskidt. Der er store planter overalt. Værtinden trænger til en hjælpende hånd. Billederne på hjemmesiden er gamle og svarer slet ikke til faktiske forhold.

I am sorry that you did not understand the description of this lovely suite with private bathroom. A picture and description of the original deep soaking tub and sink are included for you to see with this bathroom. I was most fortunate to have these over 110 year old plumbing fixtures.

Needs work.
The owner was a very nice lady. She wanted to talk with ya. And help suggest ideas of things to do and where to eat. The up keep on the bed and breakfast is to much for one person to handle. So I feel she struggles keeping things done. She is trying to do everything herself. I felt like I was a teenager again as I felt you couldn’t come and go without saying what you were doing and when you were coming back. There was no key for the front door so you had to ring for her to come unlock the front door. So we didn’t want to be out to late. The sun porch where we had our breakfast had plants and pots full of dirt. Cobwebs were everywhere out there. So felt very unclean. We will not be staying here again. Unfortunately we were not satisfied. Also I knew breakfast was extra money. We paid onsite instead of hotels.com wish we would’ve it would’ve been cheaper. As it was going to be $310 then add the 40 for breakfast for two times two mornings so should’ve been $350. Was charged $369 I think.

I am sorry that you feel your stay did not meet your expectations. It is sad that you were offended by my caring and kindness.Yes, I am having to charge 10 extra for breakfast due to rising groceries prices. That information is published on the reservation website. I also take care to remind my guests of this charge during check in. You were not over charged.I do appreciate and value guests staying at my historic, Victorian mansion and Jacuzzi Suites in my carriage house.

When we arrived, we were told the room we reserved was overbooked but that they had another room but it cost more. Breakfast wasn’t included.

I am the owner and manager of this establishment. I am responsible for 9 guest rooms and suites. The reservation service is responsible for booking billions of rooms worldwide. Their computer system overbooked the suite you chose. Another couple reserved that suite months ago so I closed out the suite to insure it would not be over booked. I did contact the service and they acknowledged the error. I offered another option and you accepted. I have it clearly stated in at the reservation service website that breakfast is 10 per person. I explained to you at check in, because grocery prices are exceedingly high there is a charge for breakfast.Contacting me directly would have avoided your dissatisfaction.

Barbara, the proprietress was very accommodating from check in through check out. Our bed was very comfortable and our room was quiet and nicely appointed. Breakfast, at the time we chose, was delicious-baked apple, specially prepared oatmeal and tasty Iowa bacon, juice and lots of coffee. I am gluten free so this food was prepared specially to accommodate me. We enjoyed eating in the sun/plant room.

Unexpected Gem
This is not your typical hotel, if you are looking for a unique hotel experience this place is a must. Very comfortable and peaceful and felt like we were stepping back to a more elegant time. Barbara is a wonderful host and a great resource of information about the local area. We would certainly stay here again.

Barbara is a nice host, engaging with her clients. The property is too much for one person to care for. The critical reviews which have been written describe the truth of this property. We could find no other lodging available for the Walnut antique show, and I can see why this property was open.

We've all been in boring cookie cutter hotels. Here, in contrast, was a beautiful Victorian home complete with Victorian furniture, fireplaces, and chanedliers. Truly an unexpected surprise. Surrounded with flowers, a gazebo, and lawns, it conveys a quiet charm from another era. The host served a wonderful home cooked breakfast. Honestly, I can't understand why anyone visiting this part of Iowa would stay anywhere else. This is the place to go.

My girlfriend and I found this place after the hotel we originally planned to stay at for a friend’s wedding, was fully booked. It was the best thing that could have happened, because Chestnut Charm B&B was such a great experience! It definitely made our trip from out of state, so good. From check-in to check-out, we were very well pleased with our stay. Barbara was very kind, down to earth and hospitable. She treated us as though we were family. Our room, Gretels Garden, was very clean and so homey. The jacuzzi tub was extremely relaxing and definitely got a lot of use during our weekend stay. The surrounding area, complete with trees, flowers, plants, and various wildlife was serene. Barbara made some of the healthiest and tastiest breakfast we’ve ever had! The fact that she uses stuff from her own garden is great. The coffee alone was so pure and smooth. We have absolutely nothing bad to say. This place far exceeded some of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in our travels. If you are looking for something serene, cozy, homey, friendly, with a delicious homemade breakfast, then this is the place for you. If we are to travel back to the Atlantic, Iowa area again, we will absolutely be staying here again. Thank you Barbara for a great experience!!!! - Jeremy & Danielle

A charming historic home (I love old homes!) Our spacious bedroom and bathroom were clean. We had a very comfortable, quiet sleep and a delicious, healthy breakfast the next morning…omelette with fresh veggies, bacon, coffee, juice, and a cinnamon apple muffin…was awesome! The hostess, Barbara, was helpful in providing travel tips and best routes to our next destination.

Where to start. Pulled into drive, noticed the front yard had not been mowed for weeks let alone been weed-eated. The outside of the main house had paint peeling off with shrubs and trees being over grown and not maintained. The back yard was even worse, especially around the back porch area. Upon walking into the front porch, an overwhelming bad smell was apparent. Numerous dead plants filled the front porch. Upon entering the house, the bad smell continued as Barbara rushed us through the house into the kitchen area. Upon entering the kitchen, we noticed the stove was missing burners, as well as the kitchen being a mess and cluttered with papers everywhere. Barbara asked what we wanted for breakfast and stated she would cook something if she felt up to it. As we got to our room, she had covered our fireplace with cardboard, with no prior notification or explanation. A doorway had been boarded up with plywood to separate two rooms. The plywood was covered by stapling a make shift curtain to it. Upon leaving our room, we were told we would need to lock up and turn off the lights down stairs if we were going to be late. Was provided the password for the WiFi but would not work in our room. The property offers a gazebo in the backyard but offers no seating and is used to dry laundry during the day. On our last day there, Barbara tried charging us more than what was quoted by Travelocity, stating the taxes are higher than quoted. Would NOT recommend to anyone.

I am sorry that you did not have a good stay while you were here for three nights. I was present during your entire visit and not once did you talk to me about your concerns or suppositions. Even though I tried to engage you in conversation each time I saw you. Safety is a top priority here! There are real walls in this 1898 mansion and renovationed carriage house. The decorative screen in front of the locked original pocket doors with a real wall behind them is there to provide even more sound protection. I did not realize that it was an inconvenience for you to lock the door. I was able to provide a wonderful, hot breakfast each morning for my other guests and they appreciated my efforts. It is obvious that you are not aware of the situation that both the extreme heat and drought along with the pandemic has caused for all businesses, especially small businesses that have managed to survive. I have done my very best to overcome hurdles and like other businesses have been unsuccessful in finding employees. I work very diligently to provide a good experience. It is a shame that you preferred to use this public forum instead of talking with me.

Nice chestnut charm
Chestnut charm is a nice place old home built in the 1800s has the old world charm to it. Paid a little more to get a bigger room with a private bathroom with fireplace and jacuzzi it was worth it. The lady runnig the home is nice and helpful. And a good cook breakfast was amazing. She fixed us a stuffed pancake with fresh apples in it. Overall I would highly recommend chestnut charm bed and breakfast. Had a nice and relaxed stay.

Cozy Chestnut Charm!
I stayed in the Fireside Room, which is located in the mansion. Prior to my arrival, I called Barbara, the owner, & notified her that I would be arriving late. I was able to check in late with no issues. Barbara was kind enough to offer me directions to her B&B. Upon my arrival, the check-in went smoothly. The room I stayed in has a window A/C unit, & was cool. Barbara has a collection of menus from various restaurants around town. Several restaurants are within walking distance from the mansion. The Fireside Room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable. During my entire stay, it was very quiet, which I liked. Barbara arranged breakfast for me the following morning. Juice, water, coffee, thick cut & crispy bacon, an apple streusel muffin, & eggs with tomatoes & herbs. Everything was delicious! I enjoyed my stay at the bed & breakfast. The mansion has a lot of charm, & the garden is absolutely beautiful. Barbara is a gracious host, & I hope to stay at the mansion again.

This was a very quiet and enjoyable stay. I wanted peace and quiet and that's what I got. The breakfast was amazing. Barbara was a very congenial and helpful proprietor. Would recommend it to anyone who wants: unique, quiet, and a restful experience. Loved the "old time" feeling. Not a cold and unassuming hotel. If you want really "modern" this is not the right hotel for you. This took me back to the late 1800's.

Our room had no air conditioning, outside of house is in bad shape, painting peeling off, host said she hasnt put in window air conditioning in all the rooms yet, blinds wouldnt close to block some sun, she said she did have a room with air but it would cost $55 more per night even though it stated room had air conditioning, she wouldnt let us move room eventhough noone was staying in the room with air unless we paid more, she gave us a fan and we bought another fan, she would go into our room when we left to go somewhere and shut the fans off and left our door wide open! Water in room never got hotter than lukewarm. So disappointed and felt very taken advantage of. Her overall demeanor was odd and rude. Would not recommend ever staying here!!!

Located at the top of a long hill in a beautiful neighborhood overlooking the town of Atlantic. Lots of gorgeous trees and winding streets through a mixture of turn-of-the-century and mid-century homes. Chestnut Charm is the grand dame, poised regal back from the street in a swell of beautiful trees. An old lived-in mansion that wears her wrinkles well. A delightful place to sleep and from which to explore old Atlantic—and by all indications—is well worth exploring, especially the old neighborhoods and downtown area. Who knew?

Disappointing for a B&B.
Good breakfast. Outside areas and landscaping in dismal condition. Table setting clean but the room was very dirty - dead or dying plants, dust, cobwebs, spiders and dirty windows with a view of unkept yard. Kitchen area very cluttered and dirty. Way too much work for one person and it shows it.

Walnut Antique Walk Weekend.
We spent two nights at the Chestnut Charm B&B. Our experience was very enjoyable. Our suite in the carriage house was beautiful. The decor was charming, the huge bathroom was amazing. Breakfast was served with care and enthusiasm, it is obvious that Barbara loves what she does. We asked for directions and suggestions of where to eat - her directions were spot on and her suggestions were very excellent. If ever in the area again we will definitely stay at the Chestnut Charm B&B.

Beautiful home and room. Owner's attitude ruined our stay. Be sure to read descriptions of rooms closely. If it just says private bath that means there is no shower.

We were created by the owner. She talked about her self and how she can’t afford a staff and doesn’t have money to update the place. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was our first time at a B n B. Won’t be going to another one anytime soon. Really turned off by the hole deal.

A quiet and spacious location filled with wildlife on this estate. A comfortable and cozy room with a private bathroom. It sounded like you were enjoying a delightfully, engaging conversation with my other guests while dining on a delicious fresh breakfast. I am sorry you could not handle honest answers to questions. Nothing Less Than Perfect !
The owner was very nice ,welcomed us at door and made us feel at home. Very polite and professional. Our room Royal Splendor Suite was more than I expected. Just beautiful with a long window seat facing the garden,and the bathroom was breath taking! A jacuzzi was just inside the bathroom down a small stairway with stained glass above it . And on the other side a beautiful Claw Bathtub ,shoer and even a bench in front of the fireplace, which was in between the bedroom and bathroom. Linens are lined dried and sheets ironed. She also made a lot of her curtains etc. Breakfast was out of this world. Omlet & muffins made with her garden fruit. She was so nice and visited with us a bit which made us feel comfortable. We will be back to relax again!!! Very clean too.

Incredible!
Absolutely wonderful. This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast. The home is a 19th century Victorian. The room was comfortable. The bed superb. The breakfast was obviously prepared by an experienced chef. It will be hard for another B&B to top this one.

Feels like stepping back in time
This B&B made me feel like I walked into my greatgrandmother's house. No TV, no WIFI but lovely antique decor. The owner made very elaborate breakfasts that would put any restaurant to shame. The homemade muffins were to die for.
