Not good.
Several things to report on negatively unfortunately. The room was very hot so needed the window open all night however, it faced the A40 which is a very busy road. The toilet had "marks" in it - it hadn't been cleaned properly. The pillow cases had stains on them. There was no iron in the room and no one to contact to ask for one. Amazingly, the venue wasn't able to offer breakfast - this is astonishing considering that it is a pub. This was not advertised when I booked - if I had known, I would have booked somewhere else. In the pub downstairs, I wanted to have a drink however, there were empty glasses and rubbish everywhere on every empty table. There was no effort by the staff - I had to ask about breakfast and there was no mention about food in the evening and finally, the next morning, there were no staff anywhere to be found to check out. I had to just leave the room key on the bar and unlock the door to the pub to let myself out.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Evenlode, I'm sorry that you didn't have a great experience. If i may answer your point in turn.1) I'm sorry that you found the room to be to hot, the heating controls are in the rooms, this is so you are able to modify the heat at your leisure, there is a heating control next to both radiators, one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom.2) We do have irons available, I'm sorry you couldn't find anyone to ask for one, we had 8 staff on did you mention your need for an iron when you asked the server about breakfast? 3) I'm sorry you were astonished and amazed at our lack of breakfast, We do make it very clear that we are room only throughout the booking process, it is also confirmed on your booking confirmation which was emailed to you when you completed your online booking.4) Thank you for bring the issue of cleanliness of the toilet I will let housekeeping know and ask them to be more diligent in future.5) I'm sorry if you weren't informed about the dining options, the very large restaurant is alongside the bar and the hotel reception area where you checked in, with menus etc on the tables and chalkboards, you would of also have passed the notices inviting you do dine throughout the bar, I'm sorry you didn't see these I will ensure they remain strategically placed. you could probably tell that we had been extremely busy during the early evening, it does sometimes take some time to recover the space and reset, I'm sorry about that6) We do not have staff onsite overnight, but the fact that you were able to leave your key on the bar would indicate that staff were on site, as this area is locked up and made secure over night and only opened when the staff arrive. I was onsite that morning along with my housekeeper, as you can imagine there are tasks that take us away from the area where guests pass through when leaving, I'm sorry we missed you.Kind regards

Booked one night for my birthday. I saw the clip board with this information on. No one wished me a happy birthday. No mention of it, staff said “oh we were wondering where you were” as a greeting ……we were 20 minutes early! Very slow to serve. Had to ask for bill three times. Burger has very poor. Very dry and over cooked. Very slow to offer drink. Partner Has to ask three times for a beer. A very sad experience for a birthday treat. Disappointed.

Make sure you’re aware, Breakfast isn’t served.
Breakfast isn’t available. For the price paid that’s a big issue. Quiet once the traffic dies down. Lovely building and good beers.

This was a good place to stay - close to Oxford, the Cotswold and Blenhiem Palace. A lot of parking and a good pub and restaurant. Only negative is that it is on A40 so if your room faces the road it could be a bit noisy in the mornings.

We loved this hotel/restaurant/pub!! It was wonderful!! Our room wasn’t huge, but it was perfect for us! The food and drinks were delicious! Prices were very fair, as well! Loved the outdoor patio! Definitely recommend!!

OK with some disappointment
Room was nice but the shower room did have a smell of musty water/blocked drains which may explain the poor drain away of the shower. Sash windows could be opened but did not remain open as no weights or wedge to prop. Staff in the evening were attentive and pleasant. We ate there on the first night and was not happy to see there is a service charge of 10% automatically added to the bill. Of course you can refuse to pay it, but knowing some people would find that awkward, I do not think adding it in the first place is the way to go. Tipping should be at the discretion of the individual not the hotel!! Breakfast would have been nice, had it been available. A good convenient location and excellent housekeeping, although I don't need my towels and soap changing each day!!

Woke up to no hot water and nobody in the hotel to help. Couldn’t find a phone number to call for assistance. The only one we could find was the the one for downstairs. The room had the window held open with an old plastic bottle and had a slight smell of what I think was the drains. Eventually left but without having a shower. Got a call later in the morning from a lady apologising, she said the manager would be in touch but I’ve not heard anything since. I’ve stopped here a few times and it’s been ok but felt a tadge abandoned on this stay.

The Evenlode is a lovely pub with rooms. I stayed for 2 nights while visiting a friend in Oxford and found the room to be clean and decor a high standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ate once at the restaurant and it was good food with good range of choice. I was offered help with best route to my destinations and on my return late Friday evening I was greeted to check all was ok. Highly recommend and hope to stay again some time Thank you for such a lovely stay

Quiet, clean and brand new everything.
I've known the Evenlode for 30 years, but never stayed. We stayed a Monday night. It was quiet, and freshly decorated. Everything was grand. Quiet, despite the A40. Bed was great, shower was better. No breakfast available. Not a problem for us. Bed sheet was a bit odd. Just slightly too small (double sheet on King bed), but that aside, 100% great.

Overall happy with hotel and our room, which was well maintained, obviously the current situation not ideal. This limited the housekeeping in our room and the biggest let down to our 4 night stay was the lack of breakfast . Possibly not much of an issue if only one night.

Warm welcome and gorgeous rooms
We had a warm welcome at The Evenlode where the staff were friendly and directed us to our room. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are really lovely, each is named after a different `Oxford college - we stayed in Magdalen. The room included a Nespresso machine, which was a nice touch and made a lovely coffee. The water pressure is excellent and the rain shower in the bathroom was a real treat. The hotel has plenty of parking - we could see our car from our room and is very peaceful. I would certainly stay here again without hesitation.

No breakfast 😔
Staff were lovely, room was great and everywhere is clean. Had a meal which was beautiful. Booked room not realising it was room only, not clear that breakfast is not included. Emailed following day to say how disappointed I was as didn’t realise until 11pm that this was the case, they are going to look into this and ensure website is clear and also possibly start providing some sort of breakfast. If they sort this then I would definitely stay again.
