Lauren - we're so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your time at the Lodge! It is a cozy, charming spot in Winter and year around. Also glad to hear that your youngest LOVED the bear cave, our little cave-like playroom! We love that about the Lodge - the variety of different small cozy nooks where a group of 3-4 people can hang out together is wonderful! Thanks also for your patience with the water well repair that occurred two days before your arrival. This was a first for us and our water well contractor felt horrible that the iron content in the water had not yet fallen to safe levels. The lock on the dumpster issue is now being remedied too. Unfortunately, County Waste, our bear dumpster provider, replaced our dumpster a couple weeks before your arrival and the locking mechanisms are new and different than the previous dumpster. New locks have been purchased to remedy this ASAP. Come Lodge again soon!

Our extended family of 10 can have 3 or 4 activities going on at once and nobody is bothered. Kids streaming a TV show in the Library, a group reading by the fire in the main Lodge room, a small group streaming NPR while drinking coffee in the kitchen, and a group playing a board game in the dining room. Glad you and your family enjoyed your time at the Lodge Mike! All the sheets are washed after use and the Pendleton wool blankets are dry cleaned at regular intervals. I will ensure our cleaners get the message that you had issues with dust as this is counter to all our reviews through our 6 years of renting the Lodge and we will take action! Very sorry about our bear proof dumpster being full. County Waste has promised it would be emptied for two weeks now, but for some reason they are falling down on the job for the first time in the 6 years we've had the dumpster. Our cleaners have the other supplies you mentioned in our storage room, and normally do a great job switching out and filling. Very sorry for the gaps during your stay. Come Lodge again soon! As you mention with historic douglas fir wood floors throughout, our no pets policy, and our setting just above the Woodland Valley Stream, the Lodge is heaven on earth!

Happy that you enjoyed your Lodge stay! Indeed the Lodge is a "great old house" - built circa 1910 by an NYC Department store owner as a seasonal fishing and hunting lodge. The floors and the craftsman style ceiling beams are hand hewn from douglas fir, and the outside shingles are stained with pitch, and the recent Lodge remodel has retained these charms, but introduced modern conveniences and appliances. The Lodge is also now a 4 season building post spray foaming the upstairs fully in 2013. Come Lodge again anytime!

Thanks for your kid works Erich! We rented for many years before we bought the Lodge and remodeled the Lodge. Like to think we learned what NOT TO DO!. No full size beds (only queens), no old carpeted rooms that smell like decades past (only wood floors with some rugs for some warmth), no polyester linens (only cotton). The Lodge is ready to host you and your family again soon! Lodge on!

We loved hosting you and your family at the Lodge Rebecca. It sounds like you savored the spectacular nature that is just outside your door at the Lodge, but we also hope that your young boys got the chance to enjoy the Bear Cave play and it’s host, Burroughs - the giant stuffed bear, off the upstairs bathroom on a rainy day when getting out to hike along the private stream is not as appealing. The Lodge is a perfect spot for families with members of all ages and we can’t wait to host you again in the future!

Hey Susan! Thanks so much for your review. It was indeed one of the hottest weeks of the summer when you visited. Sorry for the lack of fans! We learned from your review from our caretaker/cleaners that two fans which had previously been in in the downstairs bedrooms had somehow disappeared the week before you arrived. The Lodge is now back to full fan strength for summers! Again, sorry for the hot weather during your visit. In our 6 years of renting the Lodge, we never had any previous heat complaints, as the nights cool in summer (normally to the 60's, but sometimes even to the 50's), but I recall during your visit that temps stayed in the 70's. Additionally, using the upstairs fans to blow hot air out during the day and cool air in at night usually makes for pleasant nights. Please Lodge with us again soon! Cheers, Kevin and Robin
