Good or better than expected
Owners couldn’t have been nicer, more helpful. Live right next door and remained available but stayed out of our way. Place very clean, easy access to lake. I’d book again immediately if I ever go back to fish

A darling cottage, a breathtaking view of the lake and the very best southern hospitality.
CHARMED by this sweet little cottage. Appreciate all the fine details. The retro kitchen was the cutest! Spent most of our time on the porch overlooking the lake. Listening to so many song birds, watching turtles makes their way to and from the lake and squirels scurry about with wild abandon. Tom, Old Camp Joy's host, was the best! Superior communication! Jefferson, one of our favorite places to visit, was a little over a thirty minute drive. Recommend McGarity's Restaurant and Saloon for atmosphere and eats. We highly recommend this stay! I would grab a couple extra throws and some coffee before you come to maximize your enjoyment of the porch. Anna

Lakeview Cottage Vacation
Loved it. Lacking wifi and spotty phone reception was an advantage. Kids and adults were mostly unplugged for the duration of our stay. They were busy outside, just being kids, playing on the lake shore, having a horseshoe toss competition and generally goofing off. The view from the porch facing the lake was breathtaking especially at sunrise. If nothing else, it's worth the trip! Son and husband spent time trying to catch fish and even though they caught grass, clothing and random stuff, they loved it enough to want another trip to try for the bass our neighbors did catch. Cottage is clean, well-kept and cozy. The kitchenette is adequately stocked- comes with a well-seasoned cast-iron skillet. Knives are sharp. Hosts are gracious, welcoming and friendly. They were attentive and made the overall experience worth it. Thank you Tom and Kathy for having us and we'll be back in the summer hopefully. Try Mary's cinnamon rolls. They're delicious.

Beautiful Property
The property is beautiful. We could see the lake from our back porch. It was too cold and wet to use the paddle boats but the outdoors around us were just beautiful. If you love birds, they were everywhere !! It was very peaceful. The hosts Kathleen and Tom were very accommodating. Checked on us daily to make sure everything was ok and if we needed anything. They are the ultimate hosts ! You’ll love staying at the cottage !

I was bit surprised to find out it was media free. However, thats not the owners fault. I just missed it on the listing. Lol. Beautiful place. We had an amazing time. There is a strong possibility we could be back! My 8yr old son had a blast and couldnt stop talking about the canoe and tree swings ;)

This was the perfect little place to share a weekend with our friends. We didn’t get to enjoy the outdoor activities with our busy schedule, but definitely will be back here! You won’t be disappointed! Great spot! Great place!

Lovely Lake Cottage
My mom and I really enjoyed this peaceful getaway to a quiet lake. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and the lovely view of the water. We also had fun taking a canoe out!

Hidden Gem!
This is our 2nd stay at Sproul House, and we were able to enjoy all the extra amenities on the lake this time (it was too cold on our 1st trip). We loved using the 3 different types of boats to look around the lake and fish. As we experienced the 1st time, the cabin was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and Tom and Katherine see to every little detail inside the cabins and out with a great view of the lake for watching the sunset in the evening or sunrise in the morning with your coffee. The lake is beautiful, and this is such a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We love this place and will definitely be back soon!

Awesome experience!!!
This was exactly what we needed. The cabins are beautiful as well as the lake. We fished two days while there, about 3 hours each day and caught 9 catfish. The kids had a blast with the local animals . They loved to feed the horses & donkey as well as spend time with the other animals . While there turtles were hatching across the property . The kids were even able to return a few to the lake. I can’t recall staying at a more peaceful place. The price was excellent and the owners are simply amazing people.. I’d rate them 5 stars too :) The pictures are great online but trust me they do not do it justice. There are also great local restaurants we tried & all recommendations were great. There are grills at every cottage for your convenience as well. I could go on & on. Well done!! Will visit again!

Best place to get away from it all.
This is a wonderful place to unplug from the outside world and reconnect with your husband or wife. You can't find a better place for peace and quit and sitting on the porch and looking at a beautiful lake full of unspoiled nature. You're not sitting on your porch looking across the lake at someone else sitting on their porch looking at you sitting on yours. The three nights that we stayed, we felt like we were the only people for miles around. Tom and his wife who Owen the property are good people who care about their guests but don't intrude on you either.

2nd time staying
This was our second time staying at Old Camp Joy and we will be back for a third. Tom was easy to communicate with and answered all of our questions before and during our stay. The grounds are beautiful even in winter. We were able to bring our own Kayak this time for some fishing. It rained for most of a day and Tom offered us games to keep us occupied. It’s a great place to get away and recharge in a beautiful setting.

Short getaway
This was a quick birthday getaway for my husband and we were looking for a quiet place to stay. This place ended up as the perfect place. I was even able to surprise him with a birthday cake that the owners daughter made which was excellent. Tom made sure that everything we needed was there and that we were always comfortable. We would definitely starter again.

Wonderful Lake Oasis!
We loved this property and will definitely be back! It was THE MOST clean, adorable property I've ever stayed at. Sometimes you see pictures of properties that look updated and clean but when you get there it looks different. That is not the case with this cottage. It was meticulously decorated and they thought of every detail. This overlooks a beautiful lake and there are horseshoes, boats and swings for you to use. Just like the cottage, the outdoor stuff is well maintained as well. Can't wait to go back when it gets warmer. Thanks for the quick weekend getaway!

Another great stay with beautiful views.
This time we rented all three houses on the property. The views of Lake of the Pines is gorgeous. This rental is comfortable and the cleanest you’ve ever rented. There is a flat bottom boat at the waters edge as well as a canoe and a kayak. Tom and Katherine are available in the event you need anything. We loved it.

Peaceful setting to recharge
What a wonderful experience we had staying at Sproul Cottage on Lake O the Pines! Tom and Kathryn have built a wonderful site with thought put in to so many details! The cottages are extremely well built, well furnished and beautifully decorated. Their site is a restful oasis in an ever chaotic world!! If you are looking for a spot to relax, enjoy the beauty of Gods great outdoors at the lake, and take a break, I highly recommend and enthusiastically endorse their site!

Great Lakeside Retreat with Southern Hospitality
The Owners of this property were so welcoming. We were going to be getting in late, and they made sure to unlock the door, and leave the light on for us. We found the cabin immaculate and well stocked. Beware or excited, there is no TV or Wi-Fi, so it helped me unplug and relax. Cell signal was great for Verizon. View of the lake was true to all pictures. The grounds were awesome, my children loved playing on the big rope swing. The owners live on site, and were very welcoming, and every time we saw them, the first question was always do you need anything. We saw tortoises cross our lawn, and were welcomed by a few big toads. This was a great place for a family to rest, reconnect, and recharge. I would highly recommend it.

Perfect lake getaway
Our family was delighted with this trip, which was our first VRBO. Tom was incredibly helpful before our trip with suggestions for fishing guides, and he and Mary were welcoming and supportive once we arrived. The cabin was well built, immaculate, contained everything we needed (and things we wouldn't have thought of) and had a stunning view of the lake. We've already recommended this host and charming property to friends.

CLEAN and petfect
We rented 2 cottages and absolutely loved them. The view of Lake of the Pines was wonderful! We used the flat bottom boat that’s available at the waters edge along with life jackets. My granddaughter caught a tiny fish and hasn’t stopped talking about it. The linens were very nice and the cottage is not only decorated well but well stocked. We didn’t use the grills but will next time! The owners were very polite and available if we needed them. I can’t say enough. We will return!

Cozy cottage, beautiful property, gracious hosts
We loved our stay at Old Camp Joy! The view of the lake from our cottage porch was great. Caught 5 catfish from the lake. Enjoyed taking the row boat out on the lake one day... there were even different sized life jackets available for use with the boat. The inside of our cottage was beautiful and very clean. Very basic in utensils and cookware in the kitchen, so be prepared if you plan to do a lot of cooking or baking. If you need something though, don't hesitate to contact the owners because they will do their best to try and take care of their guests' needs. They were amazing. For a coffee maker, they offered us a choice between a Mr. Coffee and a Keurig. We enjoyed having access to the laundry room across the driveway. The ladder to the loft is very steep, but my daughter loved climbing it and sleeping in the loft. Enjoyed using the fire pit one night to roast marshmallows. Having a BBQ pit outside our cottage was great also. Tom, Katherine, and Mary, you were such nice and gracious hosts. Your kindness really takes this place to a step above any other VRBO we have ever been to... thank you for everything. We look forward to coming back!

Excellent cottage and people to work with onsite
The cottage is great if you don't mind climbing a ladder to the loft second bedroom. I completely missed that when I was looking at the information online, so I slept on the couch downstairs because I had trouble climbing stairs. There is no internet or television, which was great for us. Very peaceful and sitting on the porch is comforting because there is a beautiful view of the lake. Tom Williams was excellent to work with, and he checked on us often to make sure we had everything we needed.

Awesome get away!
The property was beautiful, Tom and Katherine have done an outstanding job. They are some really nice people. The cottage was great! The kids loved sleeping up stairs in the loft. Lake front yard is beautiful.

Lakeside getaway
Perfectly located spot to take a break from the city life. Owners were attentive , property was well kept and my granddaughter loved the horse, donkey, cats and dogs that the property had to offer. You had to walk over to all the animals so if thats not your thing they pretty much kept to themselves. Would visit again maybe in the fall or winter to change it up.

Retreat from life and media just to relax.
We were pleasantly surprised as to just how relaxing Camp Joy was. The Sproul House Cottage was very clean, comfortable and so cute too! It was the perfect size for the two us. The web site does not do justice to the beauty and peacefulness of this place. Being greeted by our host and hostess soon after check-in gave us the opportunity to have any questions answered, as well as, any last minute special request provided for. We are already planning out next visit there.

Nice get-a-way from big city life!
My family and I (including our kids ages 7 and 10) spent a long weekend in the Sproul Cabin at Old Camp Joy. It was a really nice get-a-way and exactly the relaxation our family needed in the face of the current pandemic. We felt very safe and socially distanced even with the other cabins on the property. The view of the lake from the front porch of the cabin is lovely, peaceful, and tranquil. We spent a lot of time out there eating, talking, reading, playing games (which they provided), and gazing at rainbows (we saw 2) and stars! Be warned, there are pretty bad mosquitoes at dusk, but I think that is to be expected at the lake in Texas in the summer. My husband and kids enjoyed fishing from the shore and took the kayak out several times; they even have life jackets which made me happy as a mom. My kids loved visiting the horse and donkey on-site. The cabin itself is adorable! It is exactly as pictured and as cute as can be! We loved everything about the cabin. It is so clean and very well equipped. The only thing we found missing was a non-stick frying pan; there was a cast iron pan, but a second one for making breakfast would have been perfect. Tom and his family were very accommodating and helped make our weekend away wonderful. We would not hesitate to go back or to recommend Old Camp Joy to others.

Picture Post Card Perfection
Every inch of this beautifully and meticulously maintained property is truly picture post card perfect! Tom and Katherine were incredible hosts (available and attentive to our every need, but never intrusive). Perfect Escape
This place folks is the perfect getaway from the crowds noise and fast paced world. Beautiful serene area surrounded with Pines and birch tucked quietly into a corner of the lake. Exceptionally clean and well maintained cabins with a view from every angle of the large porch/deck. The lake is almost at your door with only a short stroll on beautifully kept grounds between the cabins and lake. The serenity and peacefulness is unmatched anywhere I have ever stayed. Owners are thoughtful and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. If you want a lot of boat noise and to be crowded next to other campers with media entertainment this is not the place for you. But If you want to stay where there is peace and quiet and you can get in tune with nature then here you go. Definitely will be returning.
