Great family getaway
Great open spaces to hang out with my 5 siblings. Great kitchen to cook meals together but also enjoyed a couple meals in nearby Guttenberg. A grill was advertised and we'd planned on that, but then learned it was still locked in the garage from winter storage so we had to alter a couple dinner plans. At least the host got back to me right away when we couldn't find the grill so we could stop looking for it. Short drive for a day trip to Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds for hikes and amazing scenery. Good fishing near the house, as well as below the dam in Guttenberg, and also trout fishing not far away at Sny Magill Creek. Grocery store in town, Benders, had everything we forgot to bring ;-) Really enjoyed watching passing barges so close, as well as the trains going by. The train whistle was not nearly as loud as I thought it was going to be. The road to the house is a bit sketchy being so near the train tracks, but we got used to that. Would definately go back t this lovely property!

Sounds like you were able to enjoy so much of the surrounding area, that’s wonderful! The garage isn’t locked, you were welcome to pull the grill out

Family reunion
It was a great getaway. The trains are actually fun to watch. I wish my 5 year old was with us. He would have love the trains. House was well stocked and clean. Plenty of room. The river was beautiful. Overall great place.

Beautiful location!
We all had a great time, beautiful view, comfortably slept 16 people. We were able to bring two boats and put them in the water at the ramp just below the house. The boats were beached during our stay and had no issues. The older kids had a blast catching crawdads and minnows, they fished by the boat ramp and out on the boats. We took the kids to the pool in Dyersville one day and they had a great time. (The Guttenberg pool had closed due to broken glass in the pool.) Wonderful memories made!

Private spot with great views
Lots of room and great views. Trains and boats as mentioned in the description, which can be noisy, but were really enjoyed by the kids. We got to watch a barge go through lock and dam 10 in Guttenberg, drive back to the house and watch it go by on the river, pretty neat!

Great Family Adventure
This property was definitely off the beaten path. A great place to gather and unwind. Yes there is a train that comes by a couple of times a day but to be honest it was a highlight for my grandsons. A lot of space for us to spread out and the place was comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. The view of the river is beautiful!

We were totally happy with all the accommodations, we were 11 family members, 2 Aunts 83 & 92 years, myself 75 years & my baby brother 67 years & sister 70 years & my son, daughter in law & nephews & families with 1 four year old. The younger crowd were all happy to spend time together and with the old folks. Haha . Don’t know if I will be back that way, but if so, I would definitely want to stay in same house, freight trail & all. Thank you for making this weekend so memorable with our family.

Birthday celebrations
Celebrated two family birthdays. Well supplied kitchen and outdoor grill to cook large family meals. Great view of the Mississippi and close to Dubuque entertainments. Had a great time hanging out on the deck watching the river and enjoying family time.

Panoramic views of the Mississippi River
Gorgeous secluded property overlooking the Mississippi River. The house was clean. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked. We enjoyed watching the trains and barges. Many species of birds serenaded us. We enjoyed this property very much.

The house & views were lovely and well-maintained! We loved seeing the eagles flying over the river. The road getting there was tricky but they did not hide that fact and provided clear instructions on how to get there. Lisa was great with communication & recommendations.

Amazing stay at a beautiful place
We were looking to an awesome NY eve and this place didn't fall short of anything. The breathtaking views of the frozen river from the deck, the sound of passing freight trains in the quietness of the night was the highlight. The kitchen was loaded with everything one would need, bathrooms were big enough, clean and tidy, bedrooms were spacious and enough rooms for a group of 14 people. The living room was large enough accommodate everyone, very esthetically decorated..the collection of board games was enough to keep the kids occupied. We all felt happy being there, in fact we have already decided to come here during summer and have another reunion.. Thanks to Lori for the prompt communication right from when we reserved the property. A 5 star property for anyone looking to getaway from the hustle of the city.

Rural retreat
Spent a relaxing 5 days with family for a Thanksgiving holiday. Fantastic views from a very well-situated and comfortable house! The only disappointment was the nearest neighbor, whose yard looked like a junkyard.

Great location
We loved watching the barges go by. The location was great. We went to Promise Land Winery on a Sunday and it was very fun. The brewery in Guttenberg was great. We found good restaurants when needed but mostly cooked at the house. Kitchen was well stocked. We had a great long weekend! 4 couples.

Getaway
Excellent accommodations. Unit very clean and well stocked with supplies. We cook a lot during our family get together, and kitchen had all the utensils, pots , pans, etc. we needed. Maybe add a pizza pan or two. Also, a grocery store in Guttenberg is only a couple miles away. All beds very comfortable and unit tastefully decorated. Very pretty area next to the Mississippi River. The road to the unit is a gravel lane that is approximately 1/2 mile long. We enjoyed taking many walks to the highway and back during our stay. Railroad tracks are very close to the property; however, train, barges and water craft on the river just added to our great experience. Property Manager very responsive to questions. Very easy check-in and check-out process. Would definitely like to make reservations again next year!

Very clean, spacious property. Loved the trains, especially the horns in the middle of the night. Really appreciated the skill of barge pilots given the water level. Peacefulness of Mississippi made for easy relaxation and bird watching. Friendly neighbors, spectacular leaf color and crisp weather were additional features of a lovely fall vacation.

Girls’ Trip
This property is a bit off the beaten path, but the home was lovely and the views perfect. Our group was very comfortable in Lori’s home. Everything was as described, and we had everything we needed for our stay. Lori responded to questions promptly and gave us a great list of restaurants to try in the area and sites to see. Our group enjoyed a relaxing girls’ getaway.

Getting to this property was a bit hard to find as it is right off the highway and a big bush kind of blocks the sign but we did find it alright. The home had plenty of space for all of us siblings, aged 63-85. We had our own rooms and the living room was so big and comfy for all of us to sit around and just enjoy our time together. We so enjoyed watching the eagles fly by and the barges and river boats. It was a very enjoyable vacation for us all.

Getaway with the Momma
My sisters & I love to take our mom on an annual trip. This home gave us all the amenities we needed on one level to take mom on a safe and stress free trip. We enjoyed this home. It had everything we needed. It sleeps many more people than we had, but it would work perfectly for a large family or a girl's trip!

15 adults stayed in this house. 7 siblings and spouses and our Mom. We came to enjoy the view, play games, and be with our Mom. This house was perfect! The view spectacular and the house is really nice. The road coming to the house is interesting, but workable. We even enjoyed the occasional train passing by. We had such a great time here!

Wonderful house off the Mississippi
We absolutely loved our stay at Lori's property. The location was perfect for our family. We love to fish and being able to just walk down to the Mississippi anytime during the day to do some fishing was a huge plus for us. The house was the perfect set up for our family and we all had plenty of room and the set up of the family room was a perfect place for all of us to gather and watch movies in the evening. We loved being just down the road from Guttenberg, easy access to stores and restaurants if we needed them. The downsides we did have were the trains in the late evening hours. We loved having them during the day but late in the evening woke us up as well as our kids. Several nights we had 3 trains throughout the late evening right around 9-10, 11-12 and 3 AM. The other thing I wish was available was a gas grill vs charcoal. None of these items were deal breakers that would keep us from coming back. We will definitely be booking for our family trip next year.

Nice house on the river
This was a great place for our family. They enjoyed fishing, watching the barges pass and the trains that went by. As the property is right on the river there are lots of summer bugs (mosquitoes), but that is to be expected (bring your bug sprays and thermacels) . We would stay here again. We were prepared for the "skeeters" and brought bug spray and thermacels.

Perfect for families traveling to Iowa for Field Of Dreams Experience
We recently stayed here with 4 families from my sons U11 baseball team. There was plenty of room for all of us. The house is very neat and clean. The beds were comfy. The views of the river are amazing. There are plenty of things to do inside and outside to keep the kiddos occupied. The house is only a 28 minute drive to the Field of Dreams. And there is a grocery store 4 minutes down the road, even a pizza delivery place called CASEYS. Everyone said the house and the experience was AMAZING. The host was super accommodating and informative.

A Hidden Gem
We were stayed here with 3 other families for a Field of Dreams baseball tournament. The boys loved being able to go out and fish. One of them even caught a Gar. The view of the Mississippi and its surroundings (boats, barges, pelicans, lots of birds and other wildlife) were beautiful. The house is large so everyone could relax upstairs and or downstairs. We all watched a couple movies upstairs with plenty of room. Table was large enough for everyone to sit around for a nacho table. I would highly recommend this place, if your considering jump on it or you will miss out. The road to the house was a little rough and the we had maybe 1 train come in the middle of the night but this just added to the character of the property and made it more memorable. Lori the host was quick to reply and easy to talk with. If your reading this and it’s available…book it you won’t regret it!!

Enjoyable Family Trip
House was great. Very clean and well maintained. Driveway was an adventure! Beautiful view of the Mississippi. Enjoyed watching many barges pass by and the occasional train was even exciting! Host was very accessible. Guttenberg great little city, enjoyed music in the park, Promised Land Winery and the Fish Shack! Had a wonderful day on the Mississippi from our pontoon rented from Guttenberg Boat Rental. Would recommend this location!

House by the river
Communicating with Lori was a breeze. Accessing the property was a bit of a challenge but easy enough to find. The neighborhood is a bit rough but there were no issues or even people that were seen. The property was clean and well stocked. We didn’t watch any tv because we couldn’t figure out how to operate either one. We got to see some up-close trains but no barges I’m sure due to the icy parts of the river. Saw some eagles and other wildlife. Great property!!

Sisters Weekend.
Very comfortable home. The six of us had plenty of room. Well appointed kitchen. Comfy beds. Just a great layout. Was fun watching all the river traffic. Guttenberg has some lovely shops and very friendly people. Would love to return in warmer weather. Thank you Lori for a wonderful place to stay.

Lovely Home on the Mighty Mississippi
The only drawback to this lovely home on the Mighty Mississippi is the noise from trains & barges that run up and down the river, other than that, nice family stay!

Sibling trip
The property was well kept, well supplied, good directions to the property. The view was excellent - the railroad tracks with 4 to 5 trains per day, each approximately 100 cars, the barges up and down the river - just a really relaxing experience from the deck or the living room. I would highly recommend this place.

River Getaway with Friends
Lovely stay, beautiful views from the remote home. Be sure to follow Lori's instructions on driving in. We rented a pontoon with the kids downtown and enjoyed the day on the river followed by dinner at the Fish Shack. Clean and comfortable as advertised. Would stay again.

Great property
We had a lovely time here. Very spacious house in a great location with everything you could possibly need. One of the best equipped properties we have ever stayed at. We took our kayaks out every day right from the property.

Secluded and relaxing
We had a girls weekend with seven women and this was the perfect spot. Very nice home with lots of room and a deck to watch the trains and barges. Lori was such a wonderful host and very responsive to messages. She gave us all kinds of ideas for places to go and see. Only one thing you should know. The dirt road getting to the house is very rough and it's overgrown with weeds. Your vehicle will most likely get a few scratches. I would definitely go back to this beautiful spot.

Family vacation
This was a great house with lots of space for a big family! Plenty of outside space but the driveway has a big incline. It is on a narrow gravel road that runs right up to a railroad but only for a short distance. The view from the house is amazing and Guttenberg is a great little town with lots to offer. Lori, the house manager, was very accessible and easy to work with!
