"Service was really bad after the guys at the hotel found out we booked our jungle safari at another place. The price at Gaida Lodge is 3 time as expensive as the other place we found in the city. The food was really average as well. We also did some hiking in Nepal and stayed at much better accommodation even though it was in the mountains. "I’m a former Lonely Planet author (books and their editions include Panama 1, Las Vegas 1, Dominican & Haiti 1, Yucatán 1, and one-third of Mexico 5). I’ve stayed at several thousand hotels. "Honestly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. No heating (-5C and you could see your breath in room). No hot water. Food choice dire (pizza or spring rolls). Owner very rude. Checked out early. To top it off owner chased me across the apron as I was boarding my flight to accuse me of leaving without paying! (I’d paid in full on booking through here). Avoid!"

This hotel has it all
"Extremely welcoming staff meeting you with big smiles on arrival. The staff is really determined to make your stay the best 24/7. Be aware that the (young) reception/concierge staff do not always speak a clear English, so you may need to ask more times to get the full understanding of their explanations. The location of the hotel is great - close to main shopping areas, but still in a quiet residential area, with a hospital/pharmacy next door, and an integrated cosy complex with a lot of small handicraft boutiques and not less than four different restaurants that can all keep you busy for days - besides a small pool, library, fitness room and a nice spa. All in all a very good choice if you stay in Kathmandu for more days in a row"
