The main reason for choosing ARCOTEL RUBIN, among the many hotels in Hamburg, were the opportunity to park at the hotel, and a renowned Gin Bar, I’ll get back to the bar.
When we arrived at the hotel their parking garage had a clear green “Frei” sign outside, meaning please drive in, however the garage door wouldn’t open, and the machine wouldn’t give me a ticket.
We went to the reception to inquire, and where told, that the garage was full, and we could park about 500 meters away at the street. Well, we were very dissatisfied with that answer, which we informed the reception in both German and English. Well, the receptionist couldn’t do anything, other than give us a call, if there should turn up a free space in their garage. We parked our car those 500 meters away and dragged our luggage back to the hotel. When we arrived at the room, we got a call, that there now was a free space in the garage. I ran back to the car, and entered the garage, it still wouldn’t open, but when I rang the reception, they remotely opened it for me.
Much to my surprise I didn’t only find one free space, I found 11 unoccupied parking spots in the garage, and furthermore all of the four handicap spaces were unoccupied as well!
The only explanation I can think of, that they keep these spaces free for annoying customers like me. So heads up if you choose this hotel, and there’s no parking available, give them some noise at the reception, and mysteriously there will turn empty spaces up.
